Are you a strategic grant writer who enjoys building funding pipelines—not just writing one-off proposals?
LifeROOTS, Inc. is a mission-driven nonprofit organization serving individuals with disabilities and employment barriers across New Mexico. We are seeking an experienced Independent Grant Writer to support grant research, planning, and submission over a defined contract period. This role is remote, with periodic virtual meetings as needed.
This is not an employment position. It is a project-based independent contractor engagement, ideal for an experienced grant professional who values clarity, autonomy, and outcomes.
Requirements
Engagement Overview
The Independent Grant Writer will partner with LifeROOTS leadership to:
· Research and compile a grant opportunity resource list aligned with organizational priorities
· Develop a Grant Submission Plan identifying approved grant opportunities and deadlines
· Prepare and submit a minimum of four (4) grant applications between January and June
· Communicate professionally with funders for clarification and technical guidance as appropriate
Scope of Work Highlights
· Grant research (foundation, state, local, federal as appropriate)
· Strategic assessment of grant fit and competitiveness
· Customized proposal development (no boilerplate writing)
· Budget collaboration with LifeROOTS leadership
· Submission coordination and follow-up support
Compensation & Contract Terms
· Monthly invoicing
· No guaranteed hours
· Contract term: January–June (with potential renewal by mutual agreement)
Ideal Contractor Profile
We are seeking a grant writer who:
· Has demonstrated success securing grant funding for nonprofits
· Understands grant strategy, not just grant writing
· Is comfortable advising when a grant is not a good fit
· Communicates clearly and professionally
· Works independently and meets deadlines without micromanagement
· Maintains strict confidentiality and ethical standards
Experience with workforce development, disability services, youth programs, or government funding is a plus.
