Council on Aging of West Florida helps seniors in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties live healthy, safe and independent lives in their own familiar surroundings by providing community based, in-home programs and services such as Meals on Wheels and Alzheimer's respite care, which is provided by our Adult Day Health Care Center. Other programs and services include case management, the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs, caregiver support and training, and the operation of numerous senior dining sites throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

THE RETREAT

ADULT DAY CARE ASSISTANT

Monday – Friday: 40 Hours per week.

Wage Rate $16 per hour 

NATURE OF WORK

The Adult Day Care Assistant is a Fair Labor Standards Act Non-Exempt paraprofessional position under the direct supervision of the Adult Day Care Director. A person in this position is responsible for providing personal, emotional, cognitive and physical care of an adult participant. Every employee is required to adhere to Council on Aging of West Florida policies and procedures and abide by strictly defined instructions, rules and regulations.


Requirements

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assist participants with eating and drinking

· Assist participants with toileting (toileting may include limited changing of undergarments/clothing and cleaning of the body for participants with incontinence problems)

· Assist participants with grooming as needed (this may include changing soiled clothing)

· Assist with ambulation and physical exercise

· Assist with transferring upon arrival/departure to include walking, wheelchairs, walkers and canes

· Assist with transferring to accommodate functionally impaired participants

· Prepare and serve light meals and snacks

· Promote daily activities and socialization; being the active leader when assigned

· Assist with cognitive exercises and activities; being the active leader when assigned

· Coordinate the required monthly Resident Council Meeting with clients when assigned

· Assist with keeping a clean safe environment

· Complete documentation and reports accurately

· Other duties as assigned by the Adult Day Care Director

BASIC TRAINING AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

· High School Diploma or GED

· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to complete reports

· Good communication skills

· Ability to relate to and interact with the elderly and disabled

· Previous experience and/or training as a nursing assistant or attendant

· Previous experience with toileting and transferring elderly adults preferred

· CNA strongly preferred

· Ability to lift and transport clients

· Ability to relate to and interact with the elderly and disabled

· Agency paid pre-employment examination and health screening required to include physician’s statement indicating physical fitness to perform required duties and T.B. skin test

· Successful completion of Standard First Aid and Adult CPR training required
