About the Role

Company Description

A clinic with heart, humour, and genuinely meaningful veterinary work

If you're a vet with solid experience in surgery, dentistry, and general practice  and you’re looking for a workplace where teamwork feels easy and the days feel rewarding, Greencross Ballarat could be the perfect fit.

What Makes Us Different

At Greencross Ballarat, you won’t feel like “just another vet.” We’re a close team that thrives on humour, kindness, and shared purpose. We support each other through the busy days and celebrate the wins together. When a patient or client needs more, we step up  - because that’s who we are.

Why Ballarat?

Ballarat is often described as “mini Melbourne," all the culture, cafés, restaurants, green spaces, and amenities you'd expect from a vibrant regional city, but without the congestion or the price tag. It’s a welcoming community with a rich history, strong food and arts scene, prestigious schooling options, and plenty of family friendly facilities. Housing is more accessible, lifestyle is more relaxed, and you’re still just 1.5 hours from Melbourne by car or train, with the coast, Geelong, and the Great Ocean Road an easy drive away. It’s the kind of place where you can build a meaningful career and enjoy space, affordability, and a great quality of life.

Real Examples of How We Care

  • When a beloved Golden Retriever needed overnight monitoring outside our usual hours, the team reorganised themselves to ensure he wasn’t alone.
  • We’ve supported home euthanasia’s when it meant a more peaceful experience for families.
  • Our nurses frequently deliver ashes personally, help elderly clients move pets safely, and always go the extra mile.

These aren’t exceptions - they’re a reflection of our culture.

Your Team

Everyone brings something unique to the table:

  • Lakota – our “vampire,” the queen of effortless blood draws and the one who helps keep the clinic running smoothly.
  • Anel – our gentle, calm presence during difficult moments, especially end of life care. A true feline whisperer with standout diagnostic instincts.
  • Marcel – our charismatic “eye guy,” passionate about ophthalmology and never shy of a good chat with clients.

You’ll be joining a group that genuinely likes each other and values each person’s strengths.

Our Clinic

Our clinic is freshly renovated, spacious, and designed to support high quality, modern veterinary care. You’ll have access to a full surgical suite with multiparameter monitoring, electrocautery and suction, excellent dental facilities including an Im3 dental unit with digital dental radiography, tonometry, DR radiography, and a new ultrasound machine. We have dedicated cat and dog wards, and our space feels comfortable to work in.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a vet who:

  • Has strong clinical and surgical confidence
  • Communicates well with clients and colleagues
  • Brings humour, empathy, and a collaborative mindset
  • Enjoys being part of a small, close‑knit team
  • Is comfortable with occasional sole charge (mostly Saturday mornings on rotation)

What You’ll Love

  • No after hours
  • No public holidays
  • Minimal Saturdays (about 1 in 4)
  • A manager who genuinely cares and values balance
  • A stable team with low turnover and strong trust
