Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida Tennessee and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. What will you do as a Youth Partner?


The Youth Partner’s primary purpose is to provide engagement, support, guidance, mentoring, advocacy, crisis support, and empowerment to the youth assigned to their caseload.

The Youth Partner will work collaboratively with referred youth, their caregivers, the Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) staff, and other members of the youth’s team to increase placement stability and youth’s wellbeing.


As a Youth Partner you will:

  • Function as a contributing member of a case management team.
  • Engage youth who are historically challenging to engage and develop rapport, help them establish buy-in to their case plan.
  • Provide mentoring and modeling for youth assigned to your caseload.
  • Provide crisis management and intervention as needed.
  • Empower the youth in your caseload to find their voice and learn appropriate self-advocacy

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related field highly preferred.
  • High school diploma or bachelor’s degree in an unrelated field may be considered based on job related experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with adolescents in a supportive, therapeutic, or behavioral intervention role.
  • Lived or personal experience with DCBS, Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) and/or healthcare required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite application software, excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and meet any credentialing, licensing and privileging standards as it pertains to the department you are in.
  • All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test, and an extensive background check is required.
