Job Summary

The advanced practitioner is a licensed independent practitioner who is responsible for managing and coordinating care of patients in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care.  The advance practitioner is supervised by a physician.   

 

Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)

 

  • Provides education and patient care management to patients by obtaining a medical history and performing physical assessments appropriate to the patient's presenting complaints and age.
  • Analyzes, interprets, and evaluates subjective and objective findings to develop an assessment in order to initiate a treatment plan.
  • Develops a plan of care based upon assessment, which includes prescribing appropriate medications and treatments, providing follow-up care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care.
  • Promotes healthy living through education and provides patient education regarding medications, treatments, anticipated outcomes, and referrals.
  • Provides appropriate documentation in the EHR.
  • Attends and participates in staff conferences, clinic meetings, committee meetings, and NP/PA meetings.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities of the team or department and demonstrates the ability to further and support the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Works effectively as a member of a team. Takes leadership responsibility for completion of tasks when indicated and satisfies team expectations regarding work habits.

Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
  • Considerable knowledge of professional nursing and basic medical theory and practice.
  • Considerable knowledge of the nurse practitioner guidelines, rules, regulations, and policies of the organization.
  • Ability to discriminate between normal and abnormal findings.

 

Job Requirements

 

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; possession of a license as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the State of Tennessee; certification as a Nurse Practitioner as recognized by the Tennessee Board of Nursing; and a minimum of two to three years experience as a nurse practitioner. 
  • Completion of a Master’s Degree level nurse practitioner program or equivalent experience.
  • OR Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program; certification as a Physician Assistant as recognized by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to stand for  8 to 10 hours a day
  • Requires regular walking, bending, pushing, pulling  and lifting
  • Must be able to lift at least 10-15lbs
  • Must be able to assist patients with transfers from chair to wheelchair, to exam tables, and back to wheelchair/chair
  • Must be able to assist patient with turning/positioning on exam table
  • Must be able to push patient in wheelchair
  • Must be able to manipulate objects—reaching, grasping, handling
  • Must exhibit good communication skills—understand, respond and translate into action
  • Clinical setting; exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, medical preparations and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
