Position Summary:
The Team Lead will provide support to a team of coders (CPC’s). This person will act as the “go to” person for questions related to CPT, ASA, DX and modifiers. This includes but is not limited to; training and mentoring of team, reviewing coding documents, delegating work assignments, manage workflows, work with the manager to resolve personnel issues. This position will code charge tickets work special projects assigned by manager. A coder is a highly proficient employee with a solid understanding of the entire billing workflow. Performs all coding functions and assists other areas in the billing department as assigned by the manager. Will be the first line to identify and resolve problems and/or reports more difficult issues to the manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Aids in monitoring coding team of Certified Professional Coders specializing in Anesthesia.
- Research and answer questions and concerns of team members
- Communicate management goals and objectives to team
- Communicate changes to the rules and guidelines to the staff
- Work with the department manager to resolve personnel issues.
- Assist with staff evaluations
- Coordinate/provide training of new employees
- Identify training needs of staff and coordinate learning sessions on these matters
- Codes Anesthesia charge tickets
- Reviews CPT, ICD-10, ASA and HCPCS coding on charge tickets
- Reviews anesthesia records for supporting documentation for charge tickets
- Reviews medical records for supporting documentation for charge tickets
- Aids in monitoring additional information tracking logs of coders ensuring resolution is achieved.
- Participate in reviewing charge tickets that are sent back from the billers for additional information providing feedback where necessary.
- Identify cosmetic and/or prepaid cases where the anesthesia record does not stipulate start/end times for each procedure.
- Communicates issues and questions to management when appropriate.
- Assists with updating and maintaining all policies and procedures for the department.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Adherence to and compliance with information systems security is everyone’s responsibility. It is the responsibility of every computer user to: Know and follow Information Systems security policies and procedures. Attend Information Systems security training, when offered. Report information systems security problems.

Qualifications
Education/Licensing/Certification:
- High School graduate. Associate degree in business administration or related area preferred.
- CCSP or CPC professional certification is required.
Experience:
- 3+ years of coding experience in business office, hospital, or physician practice setting required.
- 1 + year of anesthesia coding required
Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Detail oriented, capable of juggling multiple projects and accustomed to tight deadlines
- Accustomed to working well under stressful situations.
- Accustomed to working in a fast paced/metrics system
- Must display a positive “teamwork” attitude and strong interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, ASA and HCPCS coding.
- Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Workers Compensation rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of organization policies, procedures, and systems.
- Skill in computer applications including MS Word, MS Excel.
- Skill in verbal and written communication.
- Skill in gathering and reporting information.
- Some understanding of clearinghouse rejections for coding is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, physicians and external customers.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Must report to work consistently on time, and for expected duration.

Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that NPH provides to compensate and recognize our staff for their work.
