Founded in 1964, High Plains Mental Health Center has been serving the residents of Northwest Kansas with mental health services for more than five decades. High Plains, a licensed community mental health center, is dedicated to an aggressive pursuit of providing a comprehensive mental health program to the residents of Northwest Kansas. Embodied in this pursuit are fundamental principles of establishing quality services as close to home as possible, at an affordable fee and delivered in the least disruptive manner available. Such services will offer a continuum of care so treatment can be individualized. Staff will respond quickly and compassionately to those reaching out to us. In addition to our offices in Hays, there are five full-time Branch Offices located in Colby, Goodland, Norton, Osborne and Phillipsburg. Services are available on a regular basis in Wallace, Rawlins, Logan, Decatur, Gove, Norton, Graham, Trego, Ness, Rooks, Rush, Smith and Russell counties. Position: Mobile Crisis Response (MCR) Case Manager (PRN)

Location: Hays, Kansas 

Pay: $28.09 per hour | $325 sign-on bonus

Job Type: PRN (as-needed)

Schedule: Working up to 28 hrs/wk on an as-needed basis | Must work at least four 8-hr weekend shifts per month | Some holidays as needed

What You’ll Do: 

  

  • Respond directly to mental health crisis calls in the community—meeting individuals where they “live, work, and play”—to provide timely, compassionate, on-site support. [Center vehicle provided].
  • Serve as a calm, steady presence during high-stress situations. Use trauma-informed de-escalation techniques to help individuals regain a sense of safety, control, and stability.
  • Work closely with a multidisciplinary crisis response team, law enforcement, emergency services, and community partners to ensure coordinated, person-centered care. 
  • Provide short-term, impactful support designed to stabilize individuals in crisis and reduce unnecessary hospitalizations and emergency room visits. 
  • Develop safety plans, identify coping strategies, and connect individuals & families to community resources and ongoing supports once the immediate crisis has passed. 
  • Maintain clear, timely documentation of services. 
  • Participate in required training for crisis response, trauma-informed care, and safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience counts! We accept equivalent work experience in human services (teaching, daycare, CNA, etc.) or a BA/BS degree. One year of related work = one year of college.
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must pass drug screen
  • Must pass all required background checks (KBI, KDADS, etc)
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license; [MVR will be checked]
  • Physically & mentally capable of working in high-pressure situations and responding to emergencies
