About the Role

Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse oversees the day-to-day nursing 

functions of an assigned area to include supervising the Certified Nursing Assistants and providing nursing 

care to residents as prescribed by the physicians and in accordance with standards of nursing practices and 

regulations.


Essential Functions


  • Supervise other professional and non-professional staff in the day-to-day delivery of resident care; schedule job assignments and develop nursing unit priorities; orient new staff and participate in the recruitment and selection of nursing personnel; communicate policies, assist and coach as needed; monitor work assignments, provide feedback, evaluate performance, and redirect and discipline employees as needed.
  • Prepare and review medical records and nurse’s notes and assess residents’ physical and emotional status; monitor resident activity and provide nursing care according to the physician’s orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies; coordinate and assist with new admissions, transfers, and discharges; transcribe physicians telephone orders; communicate with residents, family members, other interdisciplinary team members, and management regarding resident’s status.
  • Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies; sign, date and perform all charting and recordkeeping in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Understand, comply with, and promote all rules regarding residents’ rights.
  • Assist and participate in developing and implementing written care plans for individual residents that address the needs of the resident.
  • Participate in in-service training; assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training; maintain professional competence.
  • Monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance with established safety, fire, disaster, infection control and all other departmental policies and procedures; ensure cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State. 
  • Must be able to relate positively to residents and families and work cooperatively with other employees. 
  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance. 
  • Must meet all local health regulations and successfully complete a post-offer health assessment.
  • Must be capable of performing the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Experience as a Charge Nurse or supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Physical and Sensory Requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices): Walking, reaching, climbing, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to hear and respond to pages; ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, ability to read and write, ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with residents, families, personnel, vendors, and consultants; ability to remain calm under stress
