About the Role

Job Description

Guzman y Gomez (GYG) is on a mission to reinvent fast food with real ingredients, real flavour and real storytelling.
From our first restaurant in Newtown to 200+ locations across Australia, the US, Singapore and Japan - we’re expanding fast, and great design has never been more important.

As we scale, we’re investing deeply in the environments that bring the GYG experience to life. That’s where our Design team comes in. We're looking for a Designer for a 12-month paternity leave contract, to help evolve and execute the look and feel of GYG restaurants - from new builds to refurbishments, prototypes, brand innovations and everything in between. If you love blending creativity with structure, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and want to leave your mark on a global brand, you’ll feel right at home here.

What you’ll do

As a Designer at GYG, you’ll work under the Development Team alongside Real Estate, Asset & Construction to ensure every restaurant reflects our brand vision, operational needs, and world-class standards. This is a hands-on, technically strong, detail-obsessed role - perfect for someone who loves turning concepts into beautiful, buildable realities.

Restaurant Design & Planning

  • Create feasibility layouts and internal plans for new and existing store formats
  • Translate brand guidelines into functional, beautiful restaurant designs
  • Support conceptual development of new formats, refurbishments and brand initiatives

Project & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with external designers, architects and suppliers to maintain brand consistency
  • Review external documentation to ensure compliance with quality standards, codes and regulations
  • Collaborate with internal teams across Development, Operations, Marketing and Sustainability.

Documentation & Technical Delivery

  • Produce or update design documentation packs (concept, tender, construction) as required
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date design standards, guidelines and CAD plans
  • Use AutoCAD, SketchUp and other design tools to deliver precise, high-quality documentation

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify cost efficiencies through thoughtful design and value engineering
  • Contribute to long-term evolution of GYG’s restaurant aesthetic
  • Ensure design solutions are functional, scalable and operationally friendly

What you’ll bring

  • Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, Drafting or similar
  • 4-6+ years commercial design experience (retail, hospitality or multi-site preferred but not essential!)
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, budgets and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and relevant standards.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and design software (SketchUp, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a collaborative mindset, showing strong initiative, and working efficiently under pressure.
  • Demonstrated track record of delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality project outcomes on a consistent basis
  • Excellent organisation, technical skill, and an ability to balance creativity with commercial realities in a fast-changing business.
  • Availability to travel domestically as required.

Why GYG?

  • Work with a passionate, values-driven brand with huge global ambitions
  • Influence the visual identity of one of Australia's fastest-growing restaurant networks
  • Join a creative, high-performing team that loves what they do
  • Opportunities for growth as we expand internationally
  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Access to exclusive GYG merch, annual summits and company events
  • Long Term Incentive Program (yes, GYG shares!)
  • Be part of a brand that’s not just building restaurants - we’re building the future of fast food
