About the Role

Company Description

This isn’t just a job. It’s a calling.

Oho Mauri is looking for a Rangatahi Transitions Champion – someone with presence, grit, and heart who can stand alongside our rangatahi and help them move into real futures through work, training, or education. This role is hands-on, face-to-face, and community-based.

You’ll be walking with rangatahi who’ve had a rough run, backing them to find direction, build confidence, and step into opportunity. If you can connect, hold boundaries, and keep showing up – this might be you!

Oho Mauri was founded in February 2020. We deliver a 12-week Transitions Programme to our most resilient super humans aged 15 to 17 years in the North Waikato and Hamilton communities with our offices based behind Te Awa, The Base, Kirikiriroa.

Our Programme is underpinned by a deliberate focus on hauora (wellbeing) and cultural identity and weaves in work readiness, soft and life skills, work fitness conditioning and work experience to ensure successful transition of rangatahi into employment, education and or training that is most meaningful to them backed with three years of pastoral care support.

The Programme supports all aspects of their whare tapa whaa and is underpinned by data insights and tracking to ensure equitable and measurable outcomes for all. We are a whaanau of 11 with diverse skill sets who are committed and dedicated rangatahi advocates.

At Oho Mauri, you’re part of a kaupapa Maaori organisation in growth mode that backs its people, backs its rangatahi, and is building something meaningful for the future. The impact you make here is real, tangible, and life-changing.

● Supporting rangatahi to set goals and create pathways into employment, training, or education

● Providing mentoring, accountability, and pastoral care when things get tough

● Working closely with whaanau and the Oho Mauri team to wrap support around each young person and also helping out with the van drop offs between 3pm to 4.30pm

● Firm but fair – structured, consistent, and calm under pressure

● Resilient – thick-skinned, patient, and not easily discouraged

● Community-minded – knows (or can quickly learn) the Hamilton, Waikato employment and training landscape

● A mentor at heart – passionate about helping rangatahi find their worth and direction

Backgrounds in youth work, coaching, employment mentoring, personal training, or military service are a strong advantage.

You’ll need:

● Experience supporting youth or adults into employment, training, or life pathways

● Confidence building relationships with employers and industry partners

● Strong communication and organisation skills

● Cultural competence and confidence working within kaupapa Maaori
