Steelmaking Coal Is An essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground Steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.
Job Description
We are seeking a Survey Coordinator (Registered Surveyor) for our Capcoal Surface Operation, an open cut coal mine utilising draglines, shovels, excavators, and associated ancillary equipment to produce approximately 5 mtpa from three dynamic coal seams.
As the Survey Coordinator, you will report to the Technical Services Manager and will lead a team of Surveyors to provide best practice survey services to the site whilst ensuring statutory compliance and maintaining Anglo American Steelmaking Coal (AASMC) standards and contributions to the surveying aspects of the annual technical services plan. In addition, you will produce timely and accurate weekly reports and plans of the mining operation, whilst providing advice on emerging or key surveying issues with a short-term focus and recommend approaches to systematically deal with them that are consistent with the Technical Services plan and strategies.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide survey set out, pickup, reconciliation and reporting services
- Constant liaison and collaboration with technical services personnel and production crews
- Monthly survey volumes/calculations for waste excavation, coal mining and rehabilitation quantities
- Provision of design compliance plans on a weekly basis or as required
- Provide as built surfaces using Maptek scanners, Trimble GPS, and Drone surveys, weekly or as required
- Lead and supervise the surveying team onsite as the Registered Mine Surveyor
- Maintain the Coal Mine Working Plan for annual submission
Qualifications
- Degree in Surveying or Spatial Science and currently
- Open cut Registered Mine Surveyor
- Extensive experience within an open cut coal mining operation
- Demonstrated experience contributing to and leading a team of professionals to deliver against set targets
- Experience delivering best practice
- Ability to understand functionality of business systems and provide relevant data for business purposes
- Track record in developing continuous improvement ideas
- Exposure to the following hardware would be beneficial: Trimble GPS & Trimble Totals, Maptek I-Site Scanner, DJI Mavic M3E Drone.
- Previous use and knowledge of the following would also be beneficial: Klau PPK, Agisoft, Maptek Pointstudio & Vulcan, ArcGIS, Global Mapper and AutoCAD
