Description
Deep Sync is the industry leader in deterministic identity and AI-powered data solutions. Leveraging our 35-year foundation of compiling direct mail-grade datasets, Deep Sync develops data-first technologies that power marketing, measurement, AI, and business intelligence for agencies and brands with our fully deterministic identity graph, privacy-first audiences, comprehensive data solutions, and integrations with leading platforms and cloud providers.
Position Overview
Deep Sync is seeking a technical, hands-on Director of Engineering to lead our combined Data Science and Data Engineering teams. In this "player-coach" role, you will be responsible for architecting and scaling the infrastructure that powers our deterministic identity graph while simultaneously driving the development of next-generation AI/ML models.
You will bridge the gap between complex data pipelines and advanced analytics, ensuring our data is not only accessible and reliable but also actionable. We need a leader who is comfortable code-reviewing Python scripts one hour, and presenting a strategic roadmap to executive leadership the next.
Essential Skills
- Core Tech Stack: Expert-level proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Big Data Infrastructure: Deep experience with cloud data warehousing (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift) and distributed computing (Spark, Databricks).
- Data Orchestration: Proficiency with workflow management tools (Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster).
- Machine Learning Ops: Experience deploying ML models into production environments and managing the MLOps lifecycle.
- Cloud Architecture: Hands-on experience with AWS (S3, EC2, Lambda, Glue) or equivalent GCP/Azure services.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Strategy: Define the technical vision and roadmap for the data ecosystem, ensuring alignment with product goals and business requirements.
- Hands-on Contribution: Actively contribute to the codebase, perform code reviews, and drive architectural decisions. You will serve as the technical anchor for the team.
- Team Management: Manage, mentor, and grow a cross-functional team of Data Engineers and Data Scientists. Foster a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and collaboration.
- Pipeline Architecture: oversee the design and maintenance of scalable ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest, clean, and transform massive datasets (Direct Mail, Identity, Behavioral).
- AI/ML Integration: collaborate with Data Scientists to productize predictive models and AI-driven features, ensuring they are integrated seamlessly into the core platform.
- Data Governance: Champion data quality, privacy (GDPR/CCPA compliance), and security standards across the organization.
Requirements
- 10+ years of total experience in software engineering, data engineering, or data science.
- 4+ years of experience in a leadership or management role (Lead, Manager, or Director level).
- Ad-Tech/Mar-Tech Experience: Prior experience with identity graphs, audience segmentation, or DMP/CDP platforms is a bonus.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
Competencies:
- Proven ability to balance hands-on coding with management duties.
- Strong understanding of Identity Resolution (probabilistic vs. deterministic matching).
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Location:
- Kirkland, WA (hybrid)
