<p><strong>Job Title:</strong> Surgical Technician<br><strong>Company:</strong> The Eye Institute of West Florida Surgery Center<br><strong>Location:</strong> 6133 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL 33710<br><strong>Travel: </strong>Travel to our other office in Largo, FL will be required as needed. We do pay mileage reimbursement!<br><br></p> <p><strong>Hours:</strong></p> <ul> <li style="font-weight: bold;"><strong>Part-time&nbsp;</strong></li> <li>Our offices are open Monday-Friday 7am-5pm <ul> <li>You may need to work a little earlier/later as needed</li> <li>You will typically work on Mondays and Wednesdays. You will possibly work another day during the week if needed</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <p><strong><br>Requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>High School diploma or GED required</li> <li>At least one year of Ophthalmology experience highly preferred</li> <li>Two (2) years of hospital main operating room experience preferred</li> <li>Certified Surgical Technician (CST) or other Surgical Technician certifications preferred</li> <li>Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required</li> </ul> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <hr> <p><strong>SUMMARY</strong></p> <p>Assists in surgical operations under the supervision of Surgeons, Registered Nurses and Surgical Assistants.&nbsp; Assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and company policies and procedures.&nbsp; Assists the Nurses and Surgeons in delivering the highest standard of patient care available.<br><br></p> <p><strong>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>Performs their duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of their certification.&nbsp;</li> <li>Complies with HIPAA regulations.</li> <li>Ability to scrub all types of cases performed at the company.&nbsp;</li> <li>Ability to anticipate the needs of the Surgeon and has equipment, medical gases and supplies readily available for all procedures.&nbsp;</li> <li>Participates in continuing education/in-service training as needed, staff meetings, and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.&nbsp;</li> <li>Knowledge of central and sterile supply department.&nbsp;</li> <li>Opens all sterile packs according to sterile technique and prepares instruments as needed.</li> <li>Helps prepare Operating Room by setting up surgical instruments, ensuring equipment works properly, labeling sterile solutions.&nbsp;</li> <li>Helps gather supplies and equipment in the room.&nbsp;</li> <li>Maintains record on field of medication used intra-operatively, specimens retrieved, tissue implanted, implants, liquids or chemicals on field.&nbsp;</li> <li>Passes instruments and other sterile supplies to surgical assistants.&nbsp;</li> <li>May hold retractors, cut suture, help count sponges, needles or blades if applicable.</li> <li>Prepares, cares for and disposes of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.</li> <li>Operates sterilizer, lights, suction, and other Operating Room equipment and diagnostic equipment.&nbsp;</li> <li>Assists in patient transfer to PACU, if needed.&nbsp;</li> <li>Helps clean and restock operating room.&nbsp;</li> <li>Assists with any technical function under supervision of system to carry out a safe operation.&nbsp;</li> <li>Preps, drapes and positions the patient for surgery.&nbsp;</li> <li>Prepares for case according to Surgeon’s preference card.&nbsp;</li> <li>Gathers supplies needed and anticipates needs for case.&nbsp;</li> <li>Assists in orientation of new staff when needed.</li> <li>Actively participates in the development of a healthy work environment.&nbsp;</li> <li>Other duties as assigned.<br><br></li> </ul> <p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ability to prioritize, plan, and implement patient care within the scope of their practice.</li> <li>Ability to handle stress associated with prioritizing multiple tasks.&nbsp;</li> <li>Needs manual dexterity to handle instruments.&nbsp;</li> <li>Must be emotionally conscientious, orderly, and emotionally stable to handle the OR environment.</li> <li>Has the ability to adhere to work schedule, be organized, manage time effectively and in a cost effective manner.&nbsp;</li> <li>Above average organization skills.</li> <li>Able to effectively work within a team.</li> <li>Above average communication skills: verbal and written.<br><br></li> </ul> <p><strong>EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE&nbsp;</strong></p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or GED equivalent required</li> <li>At least one year of Ophthalmology experience highly preferred</li> <li>Two (2) years of hospital main operating room experience preferred</li> <li>Favorable result on background check required</li> <li>Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States<br><br></li> </ul> <p><strong>LICENSES AND CREDENTIALS</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required</li> <li>Certified Surgical Technician (CST) certification preferred<br><br></li> </ul> <p><strong>SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</p> <ul> <li>To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Amkai Charts Database software and Microsoft Word</li> <li>Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;<br><strong>PHYSICAL DEMANDS</strong></p> <ul> <li>This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required&nbsp;100% of the time.
