Welcome to St. Luke! Founded by the Brigidine Sisters in 1959, St. Luke serves students in grades PK-4 through 8 from throughout the greater San Antonio area. St. Luke Catholic School is fully accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department (TCCED). The TCCED is recognized by the Texas Education Agency and is responsible for the accreditation process for Texas Catholic Schools. Our most recent accreditation review took place September 20 - 23, 2015. The Team visited each classroom with special emphasis on curriculum and instruction. All other areas of the school were assessed, including, but not limited to Mission, Community, Building and Grounds, Student Services, just to name a few. In total, 49 areas were reviewed. St. Luke received 10 Effective ratings, 28 Outstanding and 11 Exemplary ratings. There were no recommendations for improvement in any areas. The result of the four day visit provided affirmation by the Accreditation Team, to what was already known by the community: St. Luke Catholic School has an outstanding academic program with an exceptional spirit-filled community. St. Luke seeks to provide our students with experiences and opportunities which are designed to help them reach their full potential. Through collaborative projects and individual work, Experience Learning involves having students go beyond "hands-on"​ and reflect on what they have done and learned. Experience Learning at St. Luke compliments our rigorous traditional teaching methods and produces critical thinkers who are equipped to follow a college prep track at the high school of their choice.

Summary:

Responsible for the supervision of students in school’s extended care program. Supervise all activities that take place as part of the program and ensure the safety of each child attending the school’s extended care program.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.   
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service of the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • At least 18 years of age
  • As needed, differentiate lessons and activities so they are appropriate for students of various ages and with various abilities.
  • Prepare and gather materials and supplies prior to programs daily.
  • Assist and supervise children during all activities.
  • Assist children with meal/snack time and clean-up. 
  • Clean-up site when children depart. Inspect and return supplies to appropriate place. Follow proper cleaning requirements and procedures. 
  • Ensure that site appearance, cleanliness and safe environment are appropriately maintained.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and site events as requested.
  • Communicate appropriate information to parents. 
  • Assist in enrollment, recording and submitting daily attendance records, and any other required documents assigned by site coordinator.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and childcare guidelines in a pro-active manner, making the safety and care of children primary focus. 
  • Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant and foster positive connections between participants. Actively engage with children at all times with the goal of fostering the positive development of each child and the group. 
  • Interact professionally and appropriately with children, parents, school staff, community members and partners.
  • Effectively manage assigned group. Maintain and enforce progressive discipline policy. Report observations and incidents (e.g. discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.) to site coordinator or school principal. 
  • Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events. 
  • Actively participate in all aspects of staff or member development, including supervision, team meetings, orientation and training. 
  • Complete all other relevant programmatic duties assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • High Diploma with demonstrated relevant equivalent experience in working with school-age children and/or youth development.
  • At least 18 years of age

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance
  • Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understand and apply basic child and adolescent development principles.
  • Communicate and develop positive relationships with youth
  • Adapt, facilitate and evaluate age-appropriate activities with and for the group
  • Involve and empower youth. 
  • Identify potential risk factors (in a program environment) and take measures to reduce risk.
  • Care for, involve and work with families and community.
  • Work as part of a team and shows professionalism.
  • Demonstrate the attributes and qualities of a positive role model.
  • Interact with and relate to youth in ways that support asset building.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
  • Must have good written and verbal skills;
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
