About the Role

Calvary Women's Services is expanding its housing and services to meet the needs of more homeless women in the District of Columbia. We are seeking someone who is passionate about empowering women and excited to bring their skills, experience and leadership to this newly created position of Housing Navigator with our Permanent Supportive Housing Program. 


As the Housing Navigator, you will build and manage relationships with landlords and property managers. You will also guide and advocate for women through the housing search, application and leasing processes.

Requirements

 Highlighted Responsibilities:


· Lead the housing assessment process to identify each women's needs and preferences.

· Build and maintain relationships with private landlords and property management companies to expand Calvary's portfolio of housing, including 2nd chance landlords.

· Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations who provide support and services to survivors of domestic violence.

· Maintain accurate records of client interactions, tracking of housing searches, housing placements, and other relevant date in the respective databases (Apricot, Osnium, HMIS).

· Maintain regular coordination with the case management team including facilitation of housing workshops.

· Conduct outreach and expand access to housing by cultivating relationships with property owners and management companies. Connect with landlords via neighborhood outreach, internet search, and networking events to educate them on the benefits of collaborating with the organization.

· Provide resources to case managers to assist clients with moving (locating affordable moving companies, locating storage units, acquiring furniture and other move-in essentials, etc.).

· Work with case managers to address any emerging issues related to housing and community adjustment.

· Identify and present suitable housing options, including apartments, subsidized housing, and other relevant resources. 


  

Minimum Qualifications: 


· Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree in a human services related field, related social science or business administration and a minimum of two (2) years of experience engaging landlords or property managers. The work experience can be in human services helping individuals finding housing or in real estate or property management. An applicant without a bachelor's degrees can meet the minimum qualifications by having at least five (5) years of work experience engaging landlords or property managers.

· Prior experience working with low-income individuals including individuals experiencing homelessness.

· Candidates must have strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with clients, staff, landlords, and other stakeholders.

· Extensive knowledge of housing resources and programs including Section 8, Rapid Rehousing, Permanent Supportive housing, and other relevant assistance programs.

· Problem solving and conflict-resolution skills to address housing related challenges and mediate between clients and landlords.

· Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

· Experience with data management systems to track client progress and outcomes.

· Effective written and oral communication skills.

· Candidates must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
