The Fusion Linear Accelerator for Radiation Effects (FLARE) team will operate and develop the linear accelerator and gas separation system reliability testing and performance projects, lead commissioning and qualification activities, identify and implement system improvements, perform R&D project testing, train new operators, and operate the system to support the FLARE business customers.
The FLARE Operations Lab Manager is responsible for delivering effective, inclusive leadership and setting precise expectations for the team. This role requires clear communication, cultivation of a high-performance team environment, and serving as an example of integrity and accountability. The FLARE Operations Lab Manager will utilize data-driven decision-making, promote ongoing improvement, and ensure team members are engaged, empowered, and provided with opportunities for development. Additionally, the individual will collaborate cross-functionally and lead through organizational change with professionalism and resilience, ensuring alignment with Operational Excellence and Nuclear Safety objectives.
The base salary range for this position is $118,000 - $130,000 per year plus a comprehensive compensation package. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, mentor and manage the FLARE team by setting goals and assignments while leading the staff to meet objectives and deadlines as scheduled by the business.
- Implement and improve design and engineering processes and documentation to meet professional engineering standards that meet or exceed ISO 9001 requirements.
- Evaluate existing operational processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to enhance efficiency and develop new processes as needed.
- Implement and monitor quality control measures to maintain the highest standards in our products and services.
- Execute customer projects and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and scientific teams to ensure customer requirements and timelines are met.
- Coordinate operational and technological results and key knowledge with other SHINE organizations to drive continuous improvement within the company. [AC1.1]
- Complete required training to operate a neutron driver linear accelerator system and a tritium purification system in accordance with written procedures and plans.
- Participate in a training program that, upon successful completion, may result in a State of Wisconsin Radioactive Materials License Authorized User qualification.
- Track and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess operational performance, identify trends and implement data-driven improvements.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Engineering/related field or equivalent experience; advanced education and/or related certifications is desired.
- Five (5) plus years’ experience in a technical industry, preferably leading an engineering team .
- Strong commitment to safety in decision making and behaviors.
- Highly skilled in verbal and written communications; effective organizational skills.
- Demonstrated project management skills, principles, techniques, tools, and software.
- Experience with business process in an ISO 9001 or similar environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to make data-driven decisions and provide flexibility to lead the team through evolving business needs.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position (e.g., standing or sitting) for extended periods.
- Ability to move within facility environments, including accessing testing areas and operating instrumentation.
- Ability to handle standard laboratory equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work may occasionally take place in controlled radiation areas under supervision and within regulatory exposure limits.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including full Tyvek suit while wearing a ventilated hood, lab coats, safety glasses, and dosimeters.
- Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Although flexible work hours may be available, shift-work schedules may be required, and extended hours will sometimes be necessary to complete required work assignment.
- Participate in the site emergency plan drills.
Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant’s ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls. Additionally, applicant’s eligibility may be conditioned based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background check.
