Position Overview:
The Director of EPC provides end-to-end leadership for the delivery of distributed energy projects including Solar + Storage, Standalone BESS, Microgrids, and CHP.. - From NTP, through engineering, construction, commissioning, and Commercial Operation Date (COD).
The role is accountable for hiring, developing a project management team to evaluating execution strategies, governing delivery risk, develop key EPC partnerships for successful delivery of bankable projects for long term ownership. The team will need to collaborate closely with internal teams (including commercial, development, O&M) and customers to ensure projects are delivered safely, reliably, on time, and on budget, with a seamless transition to Operations and Asset Management.
Additionally, this position collaborates closely with a peer Supply Chain leader, the Head of Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ), and cross-functional partners across Development, Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Asset Management. The Director oversees onsite construction managers on key projects and owns CAPEX deployment timing, cashflow alignment, cost discipline, and compliance with third-party financing requirements.
Projects are primarily large Behind-The-Meter (BTM) systems serving high-load, high-reliability customers such as data centers and other industrial facilities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
EPC Execution & Leadership
- Lead EPC contractors and owner’s representatives through engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
- Evaluate execution plans, schedules, sequencing, and constructability to optimize delivery certainty and risk outcomes.
- Own the integrated EPC schedule, coordinating design maturity, equipment sourcing, site mobilization, construction, commissioning, and energization to achieve COD.
- Direct and support onsite construction managers on key projects, establishing clear accountability for field execution and safety.
- Confirm readiness at each execution phase gate, including engineering release, procurement commitment, mobilization, and commissioning readiness.
Financial Management & Financing Readiness
- Manage CAPEX deployment timing, cashflows, and budget adherence.
- Administer EPC contracts, milestones, pay apps, change orders, warranties, and closeout.
- Conduct EPC contract reviews and recommend commercial terms aligned with project risk and bankability.
Procurement & Strategic Partnerships
- Partner with Supply Chain leadership to evaluate procurement strategies, manage long-lead risk, and optimize vendor selection and logistics.
- Establish and maintain strategic EPC and vendor partnerships, including preferred suppliers and integrators.
- Lead strategic initiatives that improve schedule performance, cost certainty, and execution reliability.
- Maintain EPC and vendor performance scorecards, corrective action plans, and continuous-improvement feedback loops.
Contract, Commercial & Risk Governance
- Conduct EPC contract reviews prior to execution, assessing scope completeness, technical exhibits, risk allocation, warranties, LD frameworks, and schedule remedies.
- Recommend commercial terms and approval positions aligned with project risk profiles and bankability standards.
- Administer EPC agreements, POs, and subcontracts, including milestones, pay applications, retainage, and warranty tracking.
- Lead change-order evaluation and negotiation, maintaining alignment with scope, schedule, contingency, and value preservation.
- 10–15 years leading EPC execution for distributed energy projects with multiple CODs delivered.
- Experience with Solar, BESS, Microgrids, and CHP, particularly for high-reliability BTM customers.
- Strong EPC contract, cost, schedule, and risk governance experience.
- Familiarity with third-party financing and IE requirements.
- HSEQ leadership and utility/AHJ coordination experience.
- Tools: P6/MS Project, Procore (or equivalent), Salesforce/SiteTracker.
- Bachelor’s in engineering or construction management; PMP/OSHA-30 preferred, PE a plus.
