Position Summary
Salem Academy is seeking a Head Girls Soccer Coach who is passionate about student-athlete development, competitive growth, and caring leadership. The ideal candidate understands that coaching extends beyond wins and losses and is committed to fostering personal growth, confidence, character, and a positive team culture rooted in care and respect.
This position emphasizes technical soccer development, physical preparation, and mentorship while aligning with Salem Academy’s mission of educating the whole student.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Player Development & Coaching
- Plan and lead engaging, age-appropriate, and development-focused soccer practices that emphasize technical skills, tactical understanding, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Provide individualized instruction and feedback to support the growth of each student-athlete.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive team environment where student-athletes feel valued, challenged, and cared for.
- Teach and model strong character, accountability, leadership, and respect on and off the field.
Practice & Training Structure
- Conduct on-field soccer practices four (4) days per week, focusing on skill development, team concepts, and match preparation.
- Coordinate one (1) weekly Strength and Conditioning session in collaboration with Salem Academy’s Strength and Conditioning Coach to support athletic performance and injury prevention.
- Ensure all training sessions prioritize athlete safety, wellness, and long-term development.
Competition & Game Management
- Prepare the team for competitions through effective training plans, scouting, and game strategy.
- Coach games with a growth-minded approach that balances competitiveness with teaching moments and athlete development.
- Maintain appropriate supervision and care of student-athletes during home and away competitions.
Student-Athlete Care & Communication
- Build positive relationships with student-athletes based on trust, encouragement, and open communication.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, athletic administration, and school staff.
- Support the academic and personal well-being of student-athletes, understanding the demands of a rigorous academic environment.
Transportation & Logistics
- Must be able and willing to drive a 15-passenger van to transport student-athletes safely to and from away games and events.
- Assist with basic team logistics, including travel coordination and equipment management.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
· Prior soccer coaching or playing experience at the middle school, high school, club, or collegiate level preferred.
· Strong knowledge of soccer fundamentals, skill development, and team systems.
· Demonstrated ability to coach with empathy, care, and a student-centered approach.
· Commitment to fostering a positive, development-focused athletic experience.
· Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to meet school requirements to drive a 15-passenger van.
· CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Functions
While performing the responsibilities of the Academy Head Soccer Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
