Travel Registered Nurse – PCU (Surgical Oncology)

Position Overview:

Heartline Staffing, in partnership with Purple Cow Recruiting, is seeking an experienced Travel Registered Nurse for a PCU Surgical Oncology assignment at James Cancer Hospital and Research in Columbus, Ohio. This is a mixed-acuity PCU and Med-Surg oncology unit supporting complex surgical oncology patients in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule:

• Day or Night shift options available

• 3x12-hour shifts

• Day: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM

• Night: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM

• Weekends vary based on unit needs

• No set or blocked scheduling

• Self-schedule requests accepted prior to final schedule posting

Compensation:

• Gross: $2,359 per week

• W2: $24.50 per hour

• Tax-Free Stipend: $1,477 per week

• Locals accepted at the same rate

Contract Details:

• Start Date: February 9, 2026

• Duration: 16 weeks

• Scheduling Type: Self-scheduling

• Orientation:

  – Week 1: Monday–Friday dayshift orientation

  – Week 2: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

Unit Overview:

• 12 James – Surgical Oncology PCU

• Mixed PCU and Med-Surg acuity

• Adult and geriatric patient population

• Goal ratios: 1:4 (may flex to 1:5)

• Very busy surgical oncology unit

• All permanent staff PCU trained

Clinical Focus:

• Surgical Oncology (breast, thyroid, melanoma)

• Hepatobiliary cancers (liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine)

• Colorectal cancers

• Plastic and reconstructive oncology

• Chemotherapy administration

• Blood transfusions and IV antibiotics

• Oncologic emergencies

• Cytokine release syndrome

• Insulin and heparin drips

• Strong emphasis on infection prevention and fall prevention

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required

• PCU or high-acuity Med-Surg experience required

• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

• Epic charting experience required

• Experience with oncology patients preferred but not required

• ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred

• Ability to manage mixed-acuity PCU and Med-Surg patients

• Willingness to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

• Valid compact or Ohio RN license required at time of submission

• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
