About The Company
What we do WhoWhatWhy embodies a form of investigative reporting that is rigorous, relentless and scientific — we call it forensic journalism. Forensic journalism requires skepticism towards power and credentialed expertise; a determination to unearth the facts interested parties want to keep hidden; and an unflinching commitment to follow the trail wherever it leads. We are truth seeking-not quote seeking. We take on controversial topics others will not touch and dig deep to uncover and name the institutions and persons shaping our world. Our organization is neither partisan nor ideological and only provides accounts based on extensive research and thorough sourcing. In addition to producing rigorous investigative reporting, we seek to further the long-term survival and betterment of the news industry as a whole. We pair senior reporters who have decades of experience with dedicated young journalists new to the field. We facilitate the transfer of values, methods and culture as our talented and varied investigators shape an improved and adaptive form of journalism to fit our times. Provide us your ideas We strongly encourage our readers to join us in our mission. If you know of a news, academic or literary source that relates to one of our stories, tell us about it. If there is a story of interest that hasn’t received coverage or documented facts we are missing, let us know! Consider yourself the media watchdog for the media watchdog. Donate to Us We are a non-profit organization. We need readers, supporters and citizens passionate about and committed to strong investigative journalism. Please consider a donation to help us produce the next story.

Content Creation Team Member – Social Media (Volunteer)

Use your creative skills to help make meaningful content that moves people.

We’re looking for a Content Creation Team Member to help produce original short-form content for social media — including reels, clips, and remixable videos that help us engage and expand our audience. If you love crafting creative, culturally aware content that resonates, this role is for you.

Who We Are

WhoWhatWhy is a nonprofit investigative news organization producing deep-dive journalism on the most pressing issues of our time. We’re powered by skilled volunteers and a small core staff — from students to seasoned pros — who believe in ethical, independent journalism free from corporate or political influence.

About the Role

As a member of our Content Creation Team, you’ll:

  • Create short-form video content tailored for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X

  • Repurpose or remix existing footage with new edits, overlays, and styles

  • Collaborate with the Strategy Team to align content with our growth goals

  • Track trends, sounds, and storytelling formats that can be adapted to our voice

  • Help test and refine ideas through engagement feedback

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience creating short videos or social media content

  • Familiarity with basic editing tools (CapCut, Canva, Adobe Express, etc.)

  • Strong visual instincts and cultural awareness

  • Collaborative, curious, and willing to experiment with new ideas

  • Bonus: You’ve grown your own channel or supported other content brands

Commitment

We ask for a commitment of 5–7 hours per week and a minimum of 6 months. Flexible workload with opportunities for cross-team collaboration.

How to Apply

Please send:

  • Your resume or relevant experience

  • A cover letter about why this opportunity excites you

  • Optional: A link to your social content, reels, or creative work

To confirm you’ve read this description, include the phrase “Committed to the Mission” and the result of 12 ÷ 3 somewhere in your cover letter message.

If needed, email your cover letter to [email protected]. Please check your spam folder for responses.
