Position Overview
Our Pulmonary practice is seeking an experienced and dynamic Clinical Operations Director to serve as the cornerstone of our outpatient pulmonary clinic. This unique hybrid role combines clinical leadership, practice management, and business development to drive both exceptional patient care and practice growth. **This is a hands-on position where you will actively work as a medical assistant in the clinic while simultaneously leading the team and managing operations.** The ideal candidate will be a versatile healthcare professional who excels in team leadership, operations management, and strategic thinking while maintaining an active clinical presence.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Medical Assistant Duties
- **Work daily as an active Medical Assistant in the clinic**, providing direct patient care
- Serve as Lead Medical Assistant, performing patient check-in, vital signs, and patient preparation alongside MA staff
- Room patients efficiently and assist physicians with examinations and procedures
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record system
- Ensure compliance with all clinical protocols, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations
- Model clinical excellence and best practices for the entire clinical team through hands-on demonstration
Practice Management
- Daily clinic operations including scheduling, patient flow, and resource allocation
- Oversee/assist when needed: insurance benefit verification process of staff and manage prior authorization processes
- Monitor and optimize practice efficiency, patient satisfaction, and quality metrics
- Implement and maintain operational policies and procedures
- Manage clinic budget, supplies, and equipment needs
- Coordinate with physicians to ensure smooth clinical operations
Team Leadership & Human Resources
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and train medical assistants and support staff
- Lead and mentor both in-office medical assistants and virtual assistants
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development
- Create and maintain staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage
- Foster a positive, collaborative work environment focused on staff retention
- Address personnel issues and implement retention strategies
Business Development & Marketing
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to grow patient volume
- Build relationships with referring physicians and healthcare organizations
- Identify opportunities for service line expansion and practice development
- Represent the practice at community events and networking opportunities
- Monitor market trends and competitive landscape
- Track and analyze growth metrics and referral patterns

Requirements
- Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA)
- Minimum 5 years of medical assistant experience in a clinical setting
- At least 1 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Experience in pulmonary, internal medicine, or specialty clinic preferred
- Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
- Strong knowledge of insurance verification and billing processes
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration or related field
- Previous practice manager experience
- Marketing or business development experience in healthcare
- Experience managing remote/virtual team members
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish)
