This position is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Patient Access Departments. This includes activities in scheduling, registration, and telephone room. This position will work closely with the Director of Operations and Patient Care Director to implement processes to improve patient access.
Responsibilities
•Oversee the processes of scheduling, registration and switchboard. •Comply with hospital and department standards, including but not limited to safety, quality management, environmental, confidentiality and patient care. •Prioritize work and provide prompt and efficient service. •Hire, train and counsel/discipline staff in scheduling, registration and switchboard. •Responsible for adequate staffing and coverage in all Patient Access areas. Assist supervisors with staff schedules. •Monitors staff interaction and performance with physicians and patients to ensure appropriateness and professionalism. •Develop and monitor specific objectives and performance standards for each area of responsibility. •Establish policies and procedures for scheduling, registration and switchboard. •Conduct timely performance reviews. •Provide timely performance improvement feedback and coaching. Discipline staff when warranted using Just Culture. •Coordinate with all appropriate departments within the Heart Center to ensure completion and accuracy of scheduling, registration process and switchboard. •Stay up-to-date on all regulatory issues and ensure compliance. •Respond to complaints of inquires as referred by the department staff. •Participate in the development and attainment of team, department, and Heart Center goals. •Ensures a high level of quality service provided to patients. •Review and process time cards. •Monitor the accuracy of the data entry to demographic and insurance information obtained by staff for patient registration. Investigate errors, suggest changes and/or implement solutions to encountered problems. •Maintains a solid understanding and knowledge of payer requirements, registration and scheduling workflows, as well as referral requirements to ensure staff follows established procedures to maximize reimbursement. •Monitors work queues and reports to ensure accurate and timely registration and scheduling. •Serve as the knowledge expert and information source for staff. Keep abreast of insurance, referral, and billing requirements. Request system enhancements as needed to facilitate accurate registration and scheduling •Gather and analyze departmental and program specific productivity and quality of service statistics. •Monitors accuracy of scheduling functions, provider templates and makes recommendations on template changes to best utilize providers time, while ensuring patient satisfaction. •Conduct team meetings to apprise staff of changes and to address broader-based program area issues and initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in business administration or other related subjects required.
Clinical background preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of healthcare experience required.
