About the Role

We are looking for a Head of Creative and Performing Arts Faculty for a bilingual school in Hangzhou. This position is available from the upcoming 2026/27 academic year in August 2026.

About the school

This premium bilingual day and boarding school in Hangzhou offers a through train education from Kindergarten to Grade 12 for students aged 3 to 18, with Lower School, Upper School and Kindergarten all located on one modern campus. The school currently educates over 500 students and has a team of expatriate and local teachers, with the majority of the student body being Chinese nationals following a distinctive curriculum that blends the Chinese Curriculum with key elements of international education. Lessons are delivered in both Mandarin and English, building strong academic foundations and bilingual proficiency that prepare students for entry to top global universities. Excellent facilities for academics, arts, sports and boarding, together with a strong focus on character development and holistic growth, create a dynamic and ambitious learning community.

About the role

As Head of Creative and Performing Arts Faculty, you will lead the whole school Creative and Performing Arts team, including Art, Music, Drama and Design Technology. You will secure high quality teaching, promote a strong culture of performance and presentation, and ensure that all students make excellent progress in the arts. You will model best practice, develop effective teaching and learning strategies and oversee the planning, assessment and use of resources across the faculty.

You will take a key role in the life of the school by leading events such as art exhibitions, concerts, theatrical productions and other creative activities that showcase student talent and contribute to a rich co curricular programme.

  • Uphold the school’s vision, ethos and high professional standards
  • Lead teaching and learning in the Creative and Performing Arts Faculty to maximise student achievement and progress
  • Ensure strong collaboration between Art, Music, Drama and Design Technology
  • Plan, oversee and evaluate arts curricula and assessment from Lower School through to Upper School
  • Use data and assessment information to inform teaching, set targets and implement interventions
  • Line manage, mentor and appraise faculty staff, supporting their professional growth
  • Manage faculty resources, budgets and timetables efficiently
  • Lead and coordinate performances, exhibitions and productions, including whole school and boarding events
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and external partners
  • Champion student safeguarding and welfare in all areas of faculty work
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the Senior Leadership Team
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject required, a recognised teaching qualification such as UK QTS or a postgraduate teaching certificate is preferred
  • Strong subject background in one or more arts disciplines, for example Art, Music, Drama or Design Technology
  • Working knowledge of the Chinese Curriculum and international pathways such as IGCSE and A Levels is highly desirable
  • Minimum two years of successful teaching experience and evidence of team or faculty leadership
  • Previous experience of working with students for whom English is not a first language is an advantage
  • Clear commitment to holistic education, co curricular involvement and whole school life
