JOB SUMMARY
The Lead Activities Coordinator designs and facilitates person-centered, engaging activities programs for the Cove Crest and Adult Day Center neighborhoods. Reporting to the Director of Assisted Living Services, this position coordinates the work of the Adult Day/Cove Crest Activities Assistant to ensure the delivery of high-quality, robust programming that meets both regulatory standards and participant needs of both neighborhoods. This role is additionally accountable to the Director of Adult Day to ensure appropriate regulatory and scheduling compliance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Program Development & Execution
· Develops, plans and implements individual and group activities programs within Cove Crest and Adult Day; covers other areas of care as scheduled
· Plans, schedules and implements individual, in-room activities and socialization for residents who are unable to leave their rooms or choose to stay in their rooms in Cove Crest
· Creates monthly activities calendar that provides programming that covers the seven dimensions of wellness; distributes to residents by paper copy monthly and to families by email monthly after approval from their supervisor
· Plans and attends group outings off campus as scheduled
· Collaborates with departments across campus, such as Transportation, Dining, Chaplain Services and others as needed
· Assists residents to and from scheduled activities; assists the resident in using assistive mobility devices safely
· Responsible for tracking budget and expenses for programs with guidance from supervisor; schedules performers and submits invoices for payment
Team Collaboration & Leadership
· Provides task assignments and tracks program schedules to the Adult Day Activities Assistant to ensure programming and facilitation needs are being met in both areas.
· Provides daily support and coaching to the Adult Day Activities Assistant and provides ongoing input and feedback on their performance to the Director of Assisted Living Services
· Works cooperatively with Activities team members across the community to share resources and collaborate on events and programs
· Provides weekend activities in rotation with other Activities Staff for all licensed areas
Behavioral Based Ergonomic Therapy (BBET)
· Coordinates the facilitation of the Behavioral Based Ergonomic Therapy (BBET) Program within Cove Crest
· Documents residents’ activity attendance, and residents’ response to individual and small group experiences daily; documents BBET sessions in designated portal weekly
· Maintain resident assessments which include the Activities Assessment and the BBET assessment required in their level of care; keep track of due dates, and upload assessments into electronic medical record system
· Develops a BBET Personality Profile and Music/Video Preferences form for every resident of Cove Crest
· Gathers and purchase supplies for activity programs and BBET programming as needed
· Provides BBET training and maintains records of training for all staff working in Cove Crest Neighborhoods.
· Oversees the BBET resource room ensuring that all equipment is cleaned, filed and maintained in good working order
Resident Care - Safety & Compliance
· Ensures all residents are safe during any activity; takes all appropriate action to have a safe activity space, safely designed activities, and safe interactions; renders immediate emergency response if needed
· Maintains vigilance to observe any unusual symptoms or signs of illness and reports same to nurse in charge; reports any indication of residents’ deteriorating physical, emotional, or mental health by noting such cues as uneaten food, deteriorating cleanliness, or conversations that indicate deep unhappiness or loneliness to clinical leadership
· Attends and/or communicates necessary information to assist the supervisor with family meetings or the interdisciplinary team conferences on a regular basis
· Participates in any Department of Social Services Survey Audits in both Cove Crest and Adult Day
Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
· Minimum of three (3) year work experience in social/recreational programs, required; experience with older residents, in all levels of care, preferred
· Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience, preferred
· Activities Director Certified, Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist or Bachelors degree in related field, preferred
· Activities Professional Certification required within 6 months of hire
· BBET Coordinator training, provided by Cognitive Services Educator, required within 30 days of position start date.
· Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver’s License, required. Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger Vehicle endorsement, preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel; demonstrated experience with multimedia presentation software
· Knowledge of dementia and the ability to work with and assist in developing programs for residents in varying stages of illness
· Ability to tailor activities to individual needs, and a knowledge of area resources and cultural activities
· Possess a genuine interest in the welfare and quality of life of all residents
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
· Strong organizational and administrative skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate other staff
· Ability to develop and manage daily schedules and activities calendars with attention to maintaining efficiency and hospitality experience
· Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with a strong customer service orientation and work compassionately and professionally with fellow team members, residents, prospective residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
· Ability to follow through on projects and assignments delegated by the designated supervisor
· Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond appropriately in the event of an emergency
· Ability to physically assist residents with activities provided
· Ability to safely lift and carry a maximum of 25 pounds
· Ability to stand and walk throughout the day, as well as ability to move about the community to attend meetings, visit team members, and participate in or present at activities as needed.
