Description
The Applications Engineer at Hyper Solutions supports the design and configuration of mission-critical electrical power distribution solutions for data center and critical infrastructure customers. This role partners closely with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing to translate customer requirements into technically sound, code-compliant, and manufacturable solutions for pre-sale quoting and project execution.
Serving as a technical authority for switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, STSs, transformers, and related low-voltage power systems, this position ensures solution feasibility, standards compliance, and alignment with customer specifications and industry codes.
Core Responsibilities
- Partner with Sales and customers to develop and configure data center power distribution solutions that meet technical, operational, and commercial requirements.
- Create, review, and approve pre-sale technical designs, one-line diagrams, and solution configurations in support of RFQs and proposals.
- Ensure solutions comply with applicable standards and codes (NEC, UL, ANSI, NEMA, NFPA, IEEE).
- Evaluate customer specifications and provide technical guidance for Tier I–IV data center architectures and mission-critical power systems.
- Prepare detailed submittal packages following project award, including drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Production to support product configuration, lead-time alignment, and design clarification.
- Support development and maintenance of configuration tools and standardized application engineering workflows.
- Serve as a technical resource for switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, STSs, transformers, breakers, metering, and power quality systems.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support RFI and RFP technical responses and customer presentations.
- Assist with design reviews, factory acceptance testing support, and field issue resolution when required.
- Provide technical training and knowledge sharing to Sales and internal stakeholders.
- Support continuous improvement of application standards, tools, and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related field.
- Experience in data center or critical power infrastructure, including switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, STSs, transformers, and low-voltage distribution systems.
- Strong understanding of one-line diagrams, system architecture, and electrical equipment configuration.
- Knowledge of RFQ/RFI/RFP processes and customer specification review for data center projects.
- Working knowledge of LV switchboard design and manufacturing considerations.
- Familiarity with protective devices (thermal magnetic breakers, MCCBs, power breakers), metering systems (PQM, BCM), and power quality solutions.
- Strong technical communication skills and ability to interface with customers, Sales, and Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Tier I–IV data center power system designs.
- Knowledge of PLC-based monitoring and control systems.
- Experience developing or using configuration tools for application engineering.
- Familiarity with UL certification processes and compliance documentation.

Location
Onsite in Richmond, VA, or remote depending on candidate location and business needs.
Compensation
The anticipated starting salary range for this role is $100,000 - $120,000 per year. Actual salary varies due to factors that may include but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications and location. This hire will be eligible for discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on various factors, such as individual and organizational performance.
