About The Company
Mission: The Institute is dedicated to keeping people of all ages physically active through orthopaedic research and education in the areas of arthritis, healing, rehabilitation, and injury prevention. Founded in 1988 by orthopaedic surgeon Dr. J. Richard Steadman, the Steadman Philippon Research Institute is an independent, tax-exempt (IRS code 501(c)(3)) charitable organization, employing scientists, researchers, fellows, visiting scholars, and interns The Steadman Philippon Research Institute is known throughout the world for our research into the causes, prevention and treatment of orthopaedic disorders. We are committed to solving orthopaedic problems that limit an individual's ability to maintain an active life. Our research perspective is based on clinical relevance, with a goal of improving the care of the patient. Recognizing that the body's innate healing powers can be harnessed and manipulated to improve the healing process has led to exciting advances in surgical techniques, such as microfracture and innovative rehabilitation developed by Dr. Richard Steadman, and validated at our Institute. Today, the Institute is recognized worldwide for Dr. Marc Philippon’s pioneering research for the treatment of sports related injuries to the hip.
About the Role

Description

The multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and biologists at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) works side-by-side with surgeons from the renowned Steadman Clinic to conduct research for improving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of orthopaedic disorders and promote healthy aging, funded by grants from the NIH and the Department of Defense as well as industry and philanthropy. SPRI is looking for a motivated, talented engineer to perform research in our exceptionally well-equipped Biomotion laboratory, which includes equipment for dynamic stereoradiographic imaging, an 18-camera video-motion analysis system, a dual-belt instrumented treadmill, 4 force plates and a fully equipped indoor golf biomechanics facility. Wearable sensor systems for EMG, plantar pressure and whole-body kinematics enable research outside the lab, including a snow sports safety research program conducted on the ski slope (walking distance from the lab). Our biomotion studies also incorporate advanced imaging for tissue characterization using innovative ultrasound and MRI techniques.

The Biomotion Research Engineer will be engaged in the full spectrum of research activities, including project planning and design, proposal writing, instrumentation, algorithm and code development, data collection, data processing/analysis and preparation of manuscripts, conference abstracts and posters/presentations. In addition to the Biomedical engineering team, he/she will work directly with clinic surgeons and biological scientists in the Center for Regenerative and Personalized Medicine. Current research includes the assessment and treatment of knee injury, osteoarthritis and disorders of the shoulder, hip, knee, ankle and spine, with a strong focus on regenerative medicine.

SPRI is located in the beautiful mountain town of Vail, Colorado - a great place to work and play!
