Description

BASIC FUNCTION: To operate a truck for Goodwill, making pickups of donated material and

scheduled deliveries and pick-ups of merchandise.


Hourly Wage: $23.00


JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  1. Must have a CDL-A license. Must have a good past driving record so that insurance company will accept insurability.
  2. Knowledge of the Greater Grand Rapids area is desirable.
  3. Must be able to pass a DOT physical, drug screen and background check. Must be physically able to safely and properly handle heavy items such as desks, sofas, etc.
  4. Fundamental ability to understand, accept and work with people who have disabilities and/or other barriers to employment.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Participates in and upholds the values and processes devoted to continuous quality improvement in all Goodwill operations.
  2. Pickup safely, and in accordance with Goodwill procedures, and deliver all materials for Goodwill.
  3. Responsible for the truck safety and inspection of all equipment on the truck.
  4. Record all pertinent data daily on forms provided.
  5. Responsible for actions of helpers while on route.
  6. Abide by all traffic regulations and drive in a safe, careful, courteous manner.
  7. Reading and following Transportation Handbook directions.
  8. Must follow all company policies and procedures including security issues.
  9. Responsible for promoting Goodwill both internally and externally, realizing that each individual is an important part of the Goodwill Story.
  10. Responsible for understanding and complying with Goodwill’s safety program (i.e. handbook, policies, procedures, etc.). Ask questions and alert your supervisor of unsafe practices or situations. Continually support the agency safety program.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

CDL License required.  

High school education preferred. Must be able to read and write. 

Previous experience pulling a semi-trailer up to 53 feel in length preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, taste or smell; regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and occasionally required to sit.

The employee must often lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

The specific vision abilities required by the job include distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
