About the Role

Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated HVAC Controls Programmer / Designer to join our team. This position is responsible for the installation, programming, commissioning, and servicing of HVAC control systems and Building Automation Systems (BAS). The ideal candidate has a proven background in advanced HVAC controls, vendor-certified programming, and system integration across multiple protocols and platforms. This role requires strong troubleshooting and communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work that meets customer expectations and company standards. Frequent travel may be required (U.S. Passport and Real I.D. are required).

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, calibrate, and commission HVAC control systems, including sensors, actuators, and control panels, across multiple BAS platforms.
  • Interpret project drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation, including developing and redlining documentation to reflect field changes.
  • Configure and troubleshoot communication protocols.
  • Develop, modify, and optimize Building Management System (BMS) programming.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and service calls for HVAC control systems and ensure systems meet operational and performance standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, electricians, and other technicians to ensure proper system integration.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and fostering strong, professional relationships.
  • Document all work performed, including installation details and service reports.
  • Develop and maintain custom graphics, trending, alarming, and scheduling interfaces for web-based control systems.
  • Implement control logic for energy efficiency, including start-up/shutdown sequencing, PID tuning, scheduling, and fault detection.
  • Stay abreast of current technologies, tools, and practices in HVAC controls and automation. (EPA Requirements/inhouse training is provided)
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain software tools for workflow automation and scheduling to enhance energy and operational efficiency.
  • Support sales and project management teams with technical presentations and customer engagement.
  • Provide training and support to end-users and building operators as needed.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in HVAC, electronics, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience with HVAC controls, BAS, or DDC systems.
  • Experience with systems such as Trane, Siemens, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and control logic. 
  • Experience programming and troubleshooting building automation systems (BAS) using protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency with computers and software used in HVAC control systems.
  • Experience with multi-vendor networking and integration for large-scale commercial sites preferred.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to do overnight travel to job sites. 
  • Travel required up to 25% of the time to support project needs.
