Description

Position: MC Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Facilities and Safety Manager

Location: Denver

Compensation: $25/ hour + generous benefits including 401k matching, 100% employer-paid premiums for health, dental, vision; paid vacation, holiday pay, paid parental leave

The MC Maintenance Technician will work in collaboration with the Facilities and Safety Manager, Maintenance Technicians, Senior Director of Operations, and CVC team to ensure that the Micro-Communities operate efficiently, with a primary focus on the logistical mobilization and relocation of tiny home villages. Specifically, the MC Maintenance Technician maintains structural components including fences, gates, equipment, and set-ups such as HVAC units, plumbing fixtures, and electrical wiring and performs the mechanical tasks required to decommission, transport, and re-establish these units. Maintenance Technicians also develop and implement preventative maintenance measures to ensure the longevity of facility equipment and reduce safety risks during site transitions.


Expected schedule, specific tasks related to primary focus areas, as well as other responsibilities for this position are listed below:

Schedule/ Hours

35 hrs/wk total on site at one of the Micro-Community

Up to 5 hrs/wk to be spent on-call and site visits to other MCs

Able to work flexible hours which may include a combination of early mornings, late evenings and some weekends, particularly during active village relocation phases.

Additional time will be spent in organizational meetings, meeting with external partners and coalitions, and coordinating move logistics.


Key Area #1 - Maintenance of Site Infrastructure & Mobilization

  • Conduct routine maintenance on equipment such as door hardware, evaporative coolers, electrical heating lamps, plumbing fixtures, and electrical wiring to ensure they are operating efficiently and make any needed repairs.
  • Inspect and repair fences and gates to ensure site security during both residence and transition phases.
  • Keep a detailed record of completed repairs, equipment servicing, and the structural integrity of units prior to and following a move.
  • Execute preventative maintenance measures to keep equipment operating efficiently and prevent safety risks during the transport of tiny homes.
  • Handle additional maintenance tasks as needed.


Key Area #2 - Tiny Home Village Relocation & Site Development

  • Attend site development meetings to become an expert on the technical requirements for site set-up and take-down.
  • Lead the physical decommissioning of tiny home units, including disconnecting utilities and securing structural components for transport.
  • Assist the Facilities manager, site designer, and electrical/plumbing contractors with the precise placement and re-connection of units at new locations.
  • Assist with coordinating the transport and logistics of "Sleeping Units," including removal, replacement, repair, and physical transport of structures.


Key Area #3 - Groundskeeping & Site Restoration

  • General maintenance of MC grounds at both the departing and arriving sites, including site beautification.
  • Pruning, weeding, and cultivation of planters and flower beds to maintain community standards.
  • Assist with snow clearance and grit application to ensure safe movement of units and residents.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of hard and porous surfaces, ensuring departing sites are restored to original condition and new sites are prepared for occupancy.


Key Area #4 - Maintenance/Operations Emergencies

  • Sleeping Unit Upkeep – Painting, replacing flooring, fixing door locks, and repairing damage sustained during village moves.
  • Relocation Emergencies – Handling flooding, power outages, heater malfunctions, or frozen pipes caused by or occurring during site transitions.
  • Disaster Response – Addressing natural disasters resulting in site or unit damage.

Requirements

Qualifications Summary

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable vehicle (preferably a pickup truck)
  • Ability to lift 80lb, able to climb ladders, and work on knees
  • At least 2 years of maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of heating and air conditioning units, plumbing systems, and electrical systems
  • Advanced understanding of maintenance equipment, procedures, and techniques
  • Knowledge of construction safety protocols
  • Available to be on call and respond to maintenance requests on nights and weekends
  • Excellent work ethic, communication skills, time management skills, and attention to detail
