Job Description:

As a Senior Field Technician at HRP, you’ll lead field activities for environmental, health, and safety projects, ensuring high‑quality data collection, safe work practices, and smooth project execution. You’ll work closely with project managers, supervise junior field staff, and serve as a reliable technical resource in the field. This role is ideal for someone who thrives outdoors, enjoys problem‑solving, and is ready to take on greater responsibility.

This position may be based in either Clifton Park, NY or Buffalo, NY.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead field sampling programs for soil, groundwater, surface water, and air
  • Oversee environmental site assessments, remediation activities, and monitoring programs
  • Train and mentor junior field technicians and assist with task planning
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot field instruments and monitoring equipment
  • Ensure accurate data collection, documentation, and chain‑of‑custody procedures
  • Conduct site inspections, equipment setup, and field logistics coordination
  • Communicate field conditions, progress, and findings to project managers
  • Support health and safety compliance by modeling and enforcing HRP’s safety protocols
  • Assist with preparation of field summaries, logs, and technical documentation

Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; associate degree or technical training in environmental science, geology, engineering, or a related field preferred
  • 4+ years of environmental field experience
  • Strong understanding of environmental sampling methods and field procedures
  • Ability to lead field teams and coordinate field activities
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically active tasks
  • Experience with field instrumentation, pumps, meters, and sampling equipment
  • Travel to job sites, including occasional overnight travel for up to a week at a time
  • Valid driver’s license
  • OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification is a plus (or willingness to obtain)
