About The Company
We lead with the phrase - be a kid - because we know what it means to live your whole life as trans first and a kid (or teenager) second. There is nothing like being surrounded by people who just get it. It's a relief. It's new. It's uncomfortable sometimes. But, mostly, it's freedom. We exist to provide trans and gender expansive youth the opportunity to play, to learn, to connect, and to live a fantastic childhood in the setting of a summer day camp.
About the Role

Camp Indigo, the first day camp for transgender and gender nonconforming youth, is looking for Teen Leaders for the 2026 season. Teen Leaders work in groups of 2-3 and are responsible for the safety and fun of a group of 20-30 teen campers. Camp Indigo teens have often grown up within the program and are a delightful and quirky group of folks. We’re looking for staff who can lead these youth with empathy, energy, and a deep respect for their lived experience.

We have a HUGE range of personalities within this group and we’re aiming to hire a wide spectrum of staff to meet that need.

 Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with 1-2 additional staff, lead a group of 15-30 teenagers throughout the week
  • Create and maintain a fun and respectful team environment where teens feel safe and empowered to build community, to create, and to laugh with each other
  • Organize and lead team activities including art, crafts, team building and games, etc.
  • Escort campers to off campus activities and keep them safe on and off camp grounds
  • Manage checkout and develop friendly relationships with campers’ guardians
  • Assist with daily setup and cleanup of camp
 Skills:
  • Experience and familiarity with the transgender youth community
  • Experience working with teenagers required - ideally this will look like teaching, formal mentorship, leading programs or workshops for the age group, etc.
  • Comfort and confidence in leading off-campus travel - including coordinating buses and/or parent drivers, setting schedules, and ensuring all elements of safety and open communication needed for these sorts of outings
  • Ability to match the energy, sense of humor and needs of 12-17 year olds in an age and camp appropriate fashion
  • Practice “Yes Leadership” - where we proactively look for ways to improve the program and experience of our campers and adult peers
  • An outgoing and energetic personality. To be clear, we don’t expect everyone to be wild extroverts. We actually need our introverts. AND we still need all staff to be able to meet the energy needs of our campers
  • Clear and effective communication skills. We lift each other up - and this means addressing conflict as it happens, setting body and emotional boundaries, and being an ally to our camp community
  • A strong practice of reliability and punctuality. Camp only runs 1-4 weeks depending on location. Your fellow staff (and campers) are counting on you!
  • Willingness to try new things. Sometimes it gets weird and messy around here. We need you to be excited about that
  • A strong and practiced emotional intelligence and ability to hold space for the mental health needs and experience of campers
  • First aid/CPR certified preferred

Schedule:
  • 8am- 4pm Monday-Friday during scheduled camp weeks. Note that there is a preference for staff who can work all weeks in their chosen location. All dates are provided below for information purposes.
