Summary
In the role of Estimator, you will assume a pivotal responsibility in delivering accurate and competitive project estimates by performing detailed quantity takeoffs, analyzing material, labor, and subcontractor costs, and preparing comprehensive bids, proposals, and budgets. You will collaborate closely with architects, engineers, vendors, and internal teams to identify drawing deficiencies, resolve cost discrepancies, pricing changes, and support the successful handover of awarded projects.
Duties
- Cost Analysis: Perform quantity takeoffs, calculate material, equipment, and labor costs, and analyze subcontractor bids.
- Bid Preparation: Develop detailed estimates, proposals, and budgets for projects, ensuring timely delivery.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed files of working documents, price lists, and historical cost data.
- Communication: Liaise with architects, engineers, vendors, subcontractors, and management.
- Project Support: Identify drawing deficiencies, develop pricing for changes, and support the handover of winning bids.
Requirements
- Analytical & Math Skills: Strong ability in math, research, and data analysis.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in reviewing plans and documents.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills for negotiations and reporting.
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with estimation software (e.g., Builder Exchange, Builder Connect, Construct Connect, Plan Hub, etc.)
- Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve cost discrepancies and manage unexpected variables.
Work Conditions
- Primarily office-based but involves site visits for information gathering.
- Collaborative work with project teams and external partners.
- Can involve working under tight deadlines for bid submissions, requiring extra hours.
