Role and Responsibilities:
The Fleet Service Mechanic performs journeyman-level work in repairing, trouble shooting and maintaining a wide variety of diesel, and electric powered equipment. The Technician must know a wide range of mechanical procedures to include electrical, fuel systems, brakes, suspensions, preventative maintenance, welding, and any other related work.
- Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.
- Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion.
- Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, brake, steering and hydraulics.
- Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
- Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
- Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance.
- Provides emergency roadside services, minor repairs, and assists in vehicle recovery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Successfully pass drug screening.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years journey-level mechanic experience.
- Must be able to provide your own hand tools in both standard and metric and up to a minimum of ½ inch drive.
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts, as required.
Preferred Skills:
- D.O.T. Class A CDL preferred.
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions etc.)
- Must be able to work independently.
