About the Role

Description

Position Summary:

The Training and Compliance Specialist supports the Training and Compliance Director in developing and implementing training programs for employees within the Before & After School Childcare and Camp programs. This role ensures staff receive the necessary training to provide high-quality care, meet safety standards, and comply with Tennessee childcare licensing requirements. Additionally, the specialist assists with compliance audits, documentation, and ensuring adherence to YMCA safety protocols and state regulations.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Training & Staff Development

  • Assist in the development and facilitation of training sessions for new and existing childcare and camp employees.
  • Support new hire orientation and new hire childcare training, ongoing training in areas such as CPR, First Aid, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain training records and track staff certification compliance.
  • Assist in creating and updating training materials, including online modules and hands-on workshops.

Compliance & Licensing

  • Support compliance efforts to ensure programs adhere to Tennessee childcare licensing requirements and YMCA policies.
  • Conduct routine site visits and internal audits to assess compliance with safety and operational regulations.
  • Assist in preparing for state inspections and responding to licensing agency inquiries.
  • Help develop corrective action plans and track follow-ups on compliance concerns, which includes on-site coaching and re-training.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Assist in ensuring child safety protocols are met across all sites.
  • Participate in conducting safety drills, incident reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Support training in positive behavior management, conflict resolution, and emergency response.

Collaboration & Support

  • This position reports to the Training and Compliance Director, but works closely with program directors, and site coordinators to ensure consistent training and compliance practices.
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding licensing requirements, safety policies, and training opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to training and compliance activities.
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in childcare, training, or compliance-related roles.
  • Knowledge of Tennessee childcare licensing regulations and best practices in child safety and supervision.
  • Experience in staff development, training facilitation, or compliance monitoring preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and learning management systems (LMS).
  • Ability to travel between program locations within Memphis & the Mid-South area.

Certifications & Requirements:

  • CPR, First Aid, and Child Abuse Prevention Certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days).
  • Background check and fingerprint clearance as required by Tennessee state licensing.
  • Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced childcare environment, including mornings, evenings and weekends for training sessions.
  • This is a position within the childcare team and will be called into work in inclement weather or unusual circumstances deemed necessary by the association leadership.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and conduct on-site visits, which may require walking or standing for extended periods.
