The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting daily accounting operations, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and banking regulations. This role plays a key part in month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, reporting, and audit support. We are seeking a detail-oriented accountant with a strong foundation in accounting principles and prior experience in a banking or financial services environment is a plus.
The role assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain accurate and timely general ledger entries in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Perform daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations of bank statements, cash accounts, and balance sheet accounts
- Prepare and assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close activities
- Support year-end audits by preparing schedules and documentation
- Prepare, reconcile, and upload payroll files; assist with payroll-related reporting and reconciliations
- Prepare and maintain fixed asset schedules, including monthly depreciation entries
- Prepare and file Sales & Use Tax and Property Tax filings
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processing as needed
- Prepare standard and ad hoc financial reports for management
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, bank policies, and regulatory requirements
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within accounting operations
- Collaborate with internal teams to support accurate financial reporting
Skills:
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
- High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with accounting systems and banking software; strong Excel skills required
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating as part of a team
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- Previous accounting experience required; experience within a banking or financial services environment strongly preferred
- Experience with reconciliations, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting
