Primary purpose: Responsible for partnering with builders and homeowners to design residential and commercial projects, specializing in flooring, tile, countertops, and cabinetry. Provides expert guidance to ensure functional, aesthetic, and cost-appropriate selections
Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer & Project Design
- Meet with customers in the showroom to curate design selections for residential and commercial projects, including luxury vinyl plank, laminate flooring, hardwood, engineered wood, tile, quartz, granite, Dekton, sheet vinyl, laminate countertops, and cabinetry.
- Interpret architectural plans and floor layouts to determine appropriate product selections.
- Guide customers through design decisions based on project scope, style preferences, and budget.
- Maintain strong awareness of design trends, new materials, and product innovations.
- Demonstrate strong observation skills and intuition to assist customers effectively.
- Keep projects moving forward while maintaining ongoing customer engagement and satisfaction.
Communication & Documentation
- Communicate professionally, respectfully, and clearly with builders, homeowners, team members, and supervisors.
- Document design and product selections in a complete, legible, and accurate format.
- Collaborate with account coordinators and sales teams to clarify selection details and ensure project accuracy.
Showroom, Display & Vendor Collaboration
- Contribute creative input toward updating showroom displays, including design shelves and trend-forward product presentations.
- Provide feedback (in collaboration with sales specialists) to General Manager and Vendor Relations regarding product additions and discontinuations.
- Maintain the showroom environment, including restoring samples, organizing selection areas, and ensuring displays reflect current product offerings.
- Assist with maintaining accurate product pricing classifications (e.g., sticker program).
Scheduling, Team Support & Operations
- Maintain an up-to-date Outlook calendar to support accurate scheduling of design appointments.
- Share responsibility for greeting walk-in customers and answering incoming calls.
- Support overall showroom operations and maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Experience in design focused on flooring, tile, countertops, cabinetry, or related home-interior disciplines.
- General understanding of the construction industry, with an eagerness to grow industry knowledge.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands and customer needs.
- Calm under pressure; dependable, responsible, and professional.
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to work independently.
- Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a collaborative work environment.
- Ability to lift 1–20 pounds throughout the day.
