About the Role

Description

The Guest Safety and Security Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe, secure, and welcoming environment across the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass. This role safeguards company assets, proactively supports guest and team member safety, and reinforces a cohesive culture of awareness, professionalism, hospitality, and adaptability. 


Officers operate as part of a centralized, multi-venue team and are expected to flex across all properties to support operational needs, staff required security posts and contribute to the overall resilience and effectiveness of the Guest Safety and Security Department. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


Patrols, Monitoring and Venue Security

  • Conduct continuous and routine patrols of designated indoor and outdoor areas, including front of house, back of house, retail, theater spaces, exhibit areas, and property grounds. 
  • Provide strong visibility and presence to deter theft, misconduct, and unsafe/illegal behavior. 
  • Monitor access control points, ensuring restricted areas remain secure and unauthorized entry is prevented. 
  • Observe and assess human behavior to proactively identify potential safety and/or security risks. 
  • Protect property by monitoring building envelopes, reporting and responding to vulnerabilities, hazards, and/or suspicious conditions. 

Guest Safety, Support and Experience

  • Deliver calm, clear, and professional service while supporting the guest experience and maintaining confidence, composure, and direction. 
  • Assist guests with wayfinding and safety-related inquiries across all venues. 
  • Provide support during high-volume periods, special events, and unique operational conditions. 
  • Respond to concerns, incidents or escalations using verbal de-escalation and empathy-driven conflict resolution. 
  • Support team members and partners with any safety-related needs and/or during emergency situations.

Emergency Response and Incident Management

  • Respond swiftly and appropriately to emergencies including medical incidents, behavioral escalations, crimes in-progress, hazardous conditions, or facility alarms. 
  • Administer First Aid, CPR and AED support as trained and required. 
  • Investigate/report suspicious packages or items in accordance with established protocols. 
  • Coordinate with the Dispatch Center/Security Operations Center to provide accurate, timely updates on any call(s) for service. 
  • Complete clear, detailed incident reports and daily logs. 

Technology, Systems and Operational Readiness

  • Ensure security technology is operational, including the Video Management System, alarms, access control points and communication equipment. 
  • Verify portable radios function correctly. Remain reachable and in constant communication while on duty.  
  • Operate the fire panel during incidents or drills. 
  • Conduct key and card access control compliance checks. 

Cross-Venue Collaboration

  • Work seamlessly with Space Needle & CGG departments, SPD (Seattle Police Department), Seattle Center Security, and other partners. 
  • Support coordinated safety operations for events, shared campus activities, and overlapping guest flow. 
  • Adapt responsibilities based on location needs, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork. 

Asset Protection and Loss Prevention

  • Maintain a security presence in retail areas and observe and respond to possible shoplifting behavior. 
  • Properly investigate internal theft matters and/or policy violations. 
  • Uphold organizational policies while preserving guest experience standards. 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cooperate/coordinate with the Seattle Police Department and the Seattle Center Emergency Services Unit (ESU). 
  • Know where all locations for water shut offs are and how to operate them. 
  • Assist with disaster preparedness: i.e., earthquakes, fires, and other crises. 
  • Support team member well-being by providing safety escorts to vehicles or public transportation (monorail or bus hub) for those who express concerns when departing or traveling to our properties. 
  • Occasionally escort terminated/separated employees to collect their belongings, retrieve company property and, if necessary, escort them from the property. 
  • Adhere to the company uniform policy and uphold professional attire standards at all times. 


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Prior experience in security, public venue operations, guest safety, emergency response, and/or related fields. 
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within required timeline). 
  • Proficiency with two-way radios, communication protocols, and security software systems. 
  • Ability to prepare accurate, detailed written reports and logs. 
  • Demonstrated experience in verbal de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques. 
  • Strong guest service and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Ability to operate surveillance, telephone, fire system, and digital security equipment. 
  • Ability to learn and use the in-house access card system. 
  • Ability to walk extended routes, stand for prolonged periods, climb stairs, and quickly respond physically to emergencies. 
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical activities inherent to patrol duties. 

Full Time, Hourly Position

Hourly Rate: $21.30 - $25.65 / hour (Wage of $25.65 based on completing 6 training certifications in your first 90 days of employment)
