About the Role

Description

The Harman Eye Clinic is seeking a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide patient care in our ambulatory surgery center.  The ideal candidate is patient-focused, enjoys working with the senior community, and is excited to grow in a specialized surgical setting. Harman Eye provides hands-on, on-the-job training with exposure to a wide range of ophthalmic cases, working alongside experienced surgeons, physicians, and clinical staff. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preoperative and postoperative patient calls
  • Admit and discharge patients
  • Assess, document, and monitor patient conditions
  • Administer medications and treatments as ordered
  • Circulate intraoperatively as needed
  • Monitor vital signs and assist with diagnostic testing
  • Educate patients and families on procedures and post-operative care
  • Maintain accurate medical records and comply with regulatory standards
  • Follow all safety, infection control, and compliance policies (HIPAA, OSHA, WISHA)
  • Maintain knowledge of surgical instruments, procedures, and OR setup
  • Complete the required continuing education 

Skills & Competencies

  • Medication administration (oral, IV, IM, SQ, ophthalmic) 
  • IV insertion and removal 
  • Aseptic technique and sterile field maintenance 
  • Patient positioning and discharge
  • Blood glucose and INR testing
  • Laser safety and equipment operation
  • Surgical time-out protocol

Requirements

  • Current BLS/AED certification is required.
  • One (1) year of operating room or ambulatory surgery center experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques applicable to the OR and surgical procedures.
  • Familiarity with ophthalmic procedures and patient positioning.
  • Understanding of proper handling of surgical instruments, tissue specimens, cultures, and smears.
  • Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Initiative and ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Holds a current license from the State Board of Nursing to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
