The Carol Stream Public Library is looking for a reliable and dedicated part-time team member with the availability to work Wednesdays 5-9pm, Thursdays 2-9pm, and every other Saturday 12-5pm and Sunday 1-5pm. Part-time employees receive 3 paid holidays, 2 additional floating holidays, and accrue paid leave. Part-time employees are eligible to enroll in vision benefits and can participate in an optional retirement investment fund.
Position Summary:
Performs the full range of circulation services and a variety of clerical procedures with a focus on successful customer interaction
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Welcome visitors and respond to inquiries
• Monitor incoming telephone calls and route accordingly
• Monitor chat for curbside pickup of available materials
• Deliver materials for curbside pickup
• Perform Library materials check-in, check-out, renewals, placing and processing of holds
• Assess the condition of returned and transited materials for review
• Register, renew and maintain patron accounts
• Sorts, shelves, relocates, and searches for library materials
• Retrieve returned materials from book drop
• Reads shelves for accuracy of order, re-shelving materials as needed
• Explain account and borrowing policies to customers and staff
• Assist customers in the use of Library equipment
• Records transactions for statistical purposes
• Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
• Two years customer service experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Strong customer service orientation
• Ability to handle cash and credit transactions
• Ability to interpret and execute detailed procedures
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
• Attention to detail, accuracy and organization
• Works collaboratively as a member of a team and independently with minimal direction
• Uses verbal, written and electronic communication effectively • Proficient in using a personal computer and office productivity software
• Applies basic problem-solving to a variety of situations
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
• Multiple daily collection of materials from inside and outside book drop in varying temperature and weather
• Ability to, bend, stoop, carry, reach, pull, push and lift up to 20 pounds
