The Field Service Technician performs installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repair of low-, medium-, and high-voltage power systems at client sites throughout the US. This role requires 80% travel, primarily within the Gulf Coast region, and operates with a high degree of independence. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical controls experience with excellent customer communication skills and a commitment to safety. You'll serve as the on-site technical expert, building client relationships while keeping critical power equipment running reliably.
Travel: 80% within the US | Occasional international travel
Location: Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, or Mississippi (must reside in one of these states)
Accountabilities:
Core Technical Work
- Perform installation, calibration, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs on power generation equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair breakers, shutdown switches, wiring harnesses, alternators, battery systems, and control panels (Point Eight Power and competitor equipment)
- Conduct root cause analysis on complex electrical failures
- Work with arc-resistant systems and perform field surveys
Customer Interaction
- Serve as the on-site technical expert answering questions, educating clients on maintenance best practices, and building long-term relationships
- Communicate clearly with customers about issues, solutions, and timelines
Collaboration & Growth
- Partner with Engineering, Production, and Sales teams on service estimates and parts recommendations
- Mentor junior technicians as you develop leadership skills
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
On-Call Responsibility
- Provide emergency support when critical systems go down (rotating on-call schedule)
Qualifications:
- Residency: Must currently live in Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, or Mississippi
- Education: High school diploma or GED, Required.
- Experience: 4+ years working with generators, governors, regulators, switchgear, or similar power equipment, Required.
- Industry Background: Power generation, utilities, oil & gas, marine, or energy sectors
- Electrical Controls: Solid hands-on experience with electrical control systems
- Tools: Proficient with multimeters, hand tools, wiring equipment, and soldering
- Software: Comfortable with Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting
- Driver's License: Valid license with clean driving record (required for travel), Required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical diploma in Industrial Electrical, Maintenance, or related field
- EGSA Certification
- PLC programming experience (Allen-Bradley, Quantum, Premium)
- Relay programming experience (Basler, Multilin, Sepam, Woodward)
- Familiarity with communication protocols (Modbus, Ethernet, Fiber Optic)
- Experience with GE, Siemens, or Woodward devices
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Capable of standing, walking, and kneeling for extended periods
- Work in various weather conditions and industrial environments
