Position Summary
The Patient Access Associate is accountable for working with staff, patient and visitors to provide efficient clinic and hospital operations. Primary responsibilities include patient interviews and registration, ensuring continuity through each department for services rendered, scheduling appointments, checking patients in for appointments, verifying accuracy of demographics in the electronic health record, collecting payments, answering telephones, checking insurance eligibility, and providing excellent customer service in a manner consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of Crossing Rivers Health.
Essential Job Functions
- Efficiently register patients, obtaining complete and accurate information and distributing forms to appropriate departments.
- Manage daily flow of patients through the clinic and hospital by answering phones, checking patients in and out, scheduling appointments, scanning documents, handling mail, and filing electronic and paper faxes.
- Efficiently register patients, obtaining complete and accurate information.
- Check for accuracy and typographical errors during registration.
- Conduct Insurance Verification using automated capabilities.
- Conduct pre-registration activities to assist in reducing wait times.
- Obtain proper signatures for consent of treatment, authorization of release of information, and assignment of benefits.
- Process new patient paperwork timely and accurately.
- Maintain schedules for clinic and hospital appointments and interact with physicians and clinicians in a professional and approachable manner.
- Distribute admissions papers to appropriate departments, including maintaining copies in the patient electronic record.
- Conduct point-of-service collections for copays and balance payments.
- Perform pre-registration duties for rehabilitation services, same-day surgery, medical imaging and any other departments as assigned.
- Provide assistance to Emergency Department, as requested by the RN, which may involve/require some direct patient contact and/or care.
- Assist the Behavioral Health team with treatment plans and discharges.
- Assist with patient customer service and manage patient communications
- Comply with all regulatory agencies.

Requirements
Education:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required
- Associate’s Degree (two year college or technical school): Preferred, Field of Study: Health related field
Experience:
- Two plus years of experience in customer service related setting preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in computer skills, including use of Microsoft Office
- Epic experience helpful
Certifications:
- Maintain CPR certification - can obtained after start of employment.
