Ready to play a hands-on role in safeguarding the environment while keeping vital operations running smoothly? Adler & Allan is looking for a proactive Yard Operative to join our Rainham team — and you could be exactly who we’re looking for!

As a Waste Yard Operative, you’ll be essential to the safe and compliant running of our waste yard. You’ll support the handling, processing, and movement of waste materials, ensuring everything is done to the highest environmental and safety standards.

This is a role for someone who takes pride in doing things properly, thrives in a busy yard environment, and wants to contribute to meaningful environmental outcomes.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Managing the receipt, segregation, storage, and movement of waste streams
  • Loading and unloading containers, drums, IBCs, skips, and tankers
  • Carrying out waste handling tasks including decanting, dewatering, and basic processing
  • Keeping the yard organised, safe, and inspection-ready
  • Completing accurate waste documentation and internal records
  • Conducting routine checks on containers, equipment, and infrastructure
  • Supporting audits, inspections, and regulator visits
  • Working closely with operations, transport, and compliance teams
  • Following site instructions, method statements, and safety procedures
  • Contributing to continuous improvement across the site

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience in an industrial, waste, environmental, or logistics yard
  • Solid understanding of health & safety in a high‑risk environment
  • Ability to follow procedures and work safely
  • Physical fitness for manual handling tasks
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience with hazardous or non-hazardous waste
  • Forklift/telehandler/plant operation (or willingness to train)
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations
  • Experience on regulated or permit-controlled sites
  • Additional H&S training (First Aid, Fire Marshal, etc.)

Ideal candidate will:

  • Be methodical and compliant, not casual about safety or paperwork
  • Be comfortable with physical work and manual handling
  • Understand that waste yards are high-risk, regulated environments
  • Take pride in housekeeping, order, and doing things properly
  • Work well as part of a wider operations and transport team
  • Be confident following instructions, permits, and safe systems of work
