Our Mission is to provide compassionate care and services to empower individuals experiencing substance use disorders, mental illnesses, and homelessness to attain an enhanced quality of life regardless of ability to pay.
Position Profile: The Peer Recovery Coach provides support and acts as a resource to clients who are currently in the Milestone Residential Treatment Program (RTP), a 28-day treatment program in Portland, Maine.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Function as a member of the Milestone RTP team which includes responsibilities such as the following:
- Provide support and encouragement to clients throughout treatment by being available in the milieu for games, conversation, and any other kind of engagement
- Facilitate assigned group sessions with the goal of practicing empathy and modeling for the clients.
- In partnership with the Care Coordinator, foster connection with clients to support them in drafting aftercare plans, applying for entitlements/benefits, and following through with related tasks.
- Provide transportation to and participate in recreation activities and peer recovery meetings (AA, NA, etc.), as well as to appointments, discharge locations, etc. when MaineCare transportation is unavailable.
- Participate in trainings, including Motivational Interviewing, to develop skills consistent with program core values and develop client engagement with peer recovery work within the Milestone Community.
- Assist with general housework and facility upkeep.
- Work in a professional and compassionate manner with Milestone clients who struggle with addiction, and may have histories that include being unhoused, criminal activity, trafficking, and/or exploitation, and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
- Work in a professional manner with other Milestone staff, as well as community partners and stakeholders, and represent Milestone in an appropriate manner.
- Document activities in client record as needed.
- Participate in supervision with the Director of Residential Programs.
- Accept and perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule: Per Diem - generally evening hours of 2:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Compensation: Compensation for this position rages from $20.00 - $22.00/hour, based on experience + applicable differentials.

Requirements
Identify as a person in recovery. Candidates for this position must be a Peer Recovery Coach and/or a Certified Intentional Peer Support Specialist OR be able to obtain one of these certifications within 6 months of hire. Must possess a valid driver’s license, have a reliable vehicle, and be able to transport clients.
