Position Title: Lumina Foundation Impact Investing Intern (May 2026- August 2026)
Department: Finance and Investments – Impact Investing
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana. All Lumina staff and interns spend three working days per week in their local Lumina office.
Duration: May 12, 2026- August 6th, 2026
Compensation: $20-$24 per hour for students enrolled in a graduate program or a recent graduate
Schedule: 40 hours weekly. Schedule can be negotiated with supervisor.

Purpose
The candidate will collaborate with the Impact Investing team to advance Lumina’s work in service of our 2040 goal: that 75% of US adults will have access to degrees and credentials of value leading to economic prosperity. The Impact Investing team invests in innovative, technology-oriented solutions that address the unmet needs of students to, and through, higher education and workforce.
Responsibilities:
Fund manager investment analysis
- Analyze existing portfolio to assess financial performance and impact alignment to-date
- Contribute to thought leadership by analyzing investment performance (impact and financial) at a firm and fund-level
- Develop manager landscape across asset classes
Strategic impact investment analysis
- Analyze thematic subsectors for investment as related to Lumina’s mission
- Support due diligence for direct equity investments
- Support due diligence for fund manager asset allocation
- Drive sourcing by leading accelerator and venture studio landscaping and screening
The candidate’s projects will include:
- Co-constructing, leading, and managing short projects that leverage market-level financial data to inform internal strategies and strategy execution.
- Leveraging market research to find and elevate strong opportunities for investment or ecosystem building.
- Engaging with colleagues across the foundation through internal meetings and contributing to strategic conversations.
- Working alongside strategy officers and directors to manage project tasks.
- Other projects or tasks that the candidate and supervisor agree are related to the portfolio.
Requirements
Education and Experience

- Enrolled graduate students only.
- Understanding of impact investing, venture capital, private equity, or venture philanthropy is a plus.
- Interest in the economics of postsecondary education and the issues facing underserved students is a plus.

- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to work in the Indianapolis area
