Description

Are you passionate about working with children and youth in an active, Christ-centered environment?  The Summer Recreation Program role at Black Mountain Home for Children is more than just a job - it is a ministry opportunity.  This position allows you to support the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of youth through structured recreational activities, relationship-building, and trauma-informed care.


This role blends hands-on recreation leadership with purposeful service, providing opportunities to model Christ-like character, encourage healthy play, and foster the unique talents and gifts of each child served on campus.


Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and be a strong Christian witness in all interactions with youth, staff, donors, volunteers, and the general public so as to uphold Black Mountain Home's mission of Glorifying God by caring for children, youth, and families.
  • Commit to pray regularly for the youth, staff, and ministry.
  • Support the daily operations of recreational programs, facilities, and equipment.
  • Demonstrate use of recreational equipment and teach participants the principles, techniques, and safety procedures for each activity.
  • Support and lead recreation activities and teach in various areas for residential youth, foster youth, and guests on campus.
  • Display consistent regard for physical and emotional safety, both personally and for others.
  • Help with the cleanliness and maintenance of all BMH areas.
  • Work with youth to foster talents and gifts.
  • Demonstrate consistent punctuality.
  • Display professionalism in dress, hygiene, greeting skills, and attitude.
  • Must be able to work independently and be a team player.
  • Be teachable, having a willingness to learn and try.

Requirements

  • Experience working directly with children in a recreation or recreation-related setting preferred.
  • Ability to maintain attention and high level of energy for extended periods of time.
  • Successfully complete the application and pass all background checks, registry checks, and fingerprint clearance per licensing.
