About the Role

Description

The Human Resources Generalist is tasked with administering the daily responsibilities of the Human Resources department including recruiting, onboarding staff, employee relations, process payroll, benefits, and leave, employee engagement, and ensuring Institute policies and practices are followed. This position will be onsite for 20-25 hours per week.


Duties/Responsibilities:

1. Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.

2. Coordinate background checks, conducts reference checks, and other verifications.

3. Implements new-hire orientation and employee recognition programs.

4. Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to employee relations, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.

5. Creates and maintains all employee-related policies.

6. Ensures personnel files are complete, compliant, and secure.

7. Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.

8. Attends, participates in, and documents, as needed, employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.

9. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

10. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

11. Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, certifications.

12. Acts as the payroll administrator.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

14. Manage and process employment-based and exchange visitor visas, including H-1B and J-1 classifications.

Requirements

10. Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.

11. Experience with visas such as h1b, j1 etc.


Minimum Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

2. A minimum of at least 3 years in a human resources generalist role.

3. At least one year of human resource management experience is preferred.

4. Human Resources certification preferred.


Physical Requirements:

1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

2. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

3. Must be able to access and navigate each department within the Institute’s facilities.
