The Summit Area YMCA is hiring three Community Pool Managers to help lead our seasonal outdoor pool operations at the Berkeley Heights Community Pool and the Springfield Community Pool. These roles may be assigned to one location or support both pools, depending on operational needs.


Under the direction of the Sr. Program Director, the Pool Manager supports the planning, coordination, and daily operation of high-quality aquatic programs. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe operations, strong staff performance, and a positive experience for members and families, while upholding YMCA policies and safety standards.


This is a seasonal, full-time position (40 hours per week), including evenings and weekends.

Seasonal employees receive a free YMCA during their active employment.

The outdoor pool season runs from late May through early September, with required pre-season and post-season training and preparation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily pool operations and aquatic programming to meet community needs and YMCA objectives.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising aquatics staff and volunteers.
  • Help monitor staff performance and ensure required certifications and trainings remain current.
  • Ensure compliance with all state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Serve as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor as needed to support coverage.
  • Promote and model a strong Culture of Safety, including in-service trainings, skills assessments, and emergency drills.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of swim lessons, water fitness classes, and swim team activities.
  • Build positive relationships with members and families; address questions or concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Track participation and program effectiveness through accurate reporting.
  • Assist with the review and submission of employee timesheets as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of four years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Current American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification.
  • Availability to work full time throughout the active pool season, including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work at both community pool locations and travel independently between sites as needed.
