About the Role

Job Title: Middle School Special Education Teacher 

Job Classification: Certified/Licensed Instructional

Reports to: Building Administrator/Director of Student Services

Work Schedule: Academic Calendar 

 

General Description:

The Middle School Special Education Teacher provides individualized instruction, accommodations, and support to students with disabilities in grades 6-8. This position is responsible for developing and implementing IEPs, supporting students in inclusive and resource settings, and collaborating with general education teachers and related service providers to ensure academic and behavioral success. The teacher plays a key role in ensuring compliance with state and federal special education regulations and fostering an inclusive, supportive school culture.


Qualifications:

  • Valid Indiana teaching license in Special Education (Mild Intervention or equivalent)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field
  • Strong understanding of IDEA, IEP development, and inclusive instructional practices
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for a range of learning and behavioral needs
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with high school students with diverse needs preferred
  • Proficiency with data collection, progress monitoring, and instructional technology

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement IEPs that align with student goals and educational needs
  • Deliver direct instruction, co-teach in general education classrooms, and provide resource support
  • Modify curriculum and provide accommodations to ensure student access and progress
  • Monitor student growth and maintain accurate records for compliance and reporting
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding progress and support strategies
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, and related service providers
  • Participate in IEP meetings, case conferences, and multidisciplinary team discussions
  • Implement and support behavior intervention plans and positive behavior strategies
  • Engage in professional development and remain current on best practices in special education

School Activities: 

Participate in school-wide events, parent-teacher conferences, and staff development sessions

Contribute to student support initiatives, including tutoring, advisory, and intervention teams

Support extracurricular activities or clubs as appropriate

Collaborate in school committees or leadership teams focused on student success
