About the Role

Scepter, a Myers Industries Company (NYSE: MYE), is a leading manufacturer of portable plastic containers for marine, consumer and military applications. Through smart choices and smarter design, the business doubled in size, started winning innovation awards, and earned a full 95% of the global marine fuel tank market. For the military, Scepter developed better packaging for the safe handling and storage of heavy caliber ammunition, converting from metal to plastic as the new standard. Their military fuel can is known by armies the world over as a “Scepter Can.”   When Scepter turned its attention to the retail market, the company soon became trusted throughout the world for producing rugged, ergonomic, and easy-to-use fuel containers. Steady growth and expansion ensured Canada operations were strengthened with the purchase of a key facility in the heartland of America. 

3rd Shift

11:00 pm - 7:30 am

Job Overview:   

Under general direction from the Production Supervisor, the Production Lead is directly responsible for leading the production shift to ensure that all production activities, including, but not limited to assembly work, and machine and equipment operation and monitoring, are carried out in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. Production Lead acts as a right-hand to the Production Supervisor and will also provide coverage in any production area, as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own and drive productivity, quality, and schedule attainment for the shift.
  • Coordinate daily production schedule to develop rotation based on scheduling needs while ensuring training needs are met.
  • Monitor machines and equipment in operation for malfunctions, and start and stop all machinery when necessary, using Lock-out/Tag-out as required.
  • Performs production duties and fill-in as required to provide coverage for breaks, absenteeism, and time away from work.
  • Own training of new employees, and upskilling or retraining when required.
  • Lead daily housekeeping activities of all production areas throughout the shift.
  • Utilize Servant Leadership principles to coach and mentor employees, promoting positive employee relations, while reinforcing Company policies and a highly safety-conscious work culture
  • Back up to the Production Supervisor as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be very safety-conscious with a record of Hazard Identification and Risk Control
  • Must operate, understand, and transfer knowledge of all machinery and equipment.
  • Must possess mathematical, mechanical, and analytical aptitude.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to read and communicate verbally effectively.
  • I must have strong attention to detail, a sense of urgency, and excellent time management skills.
  • Proven people and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a diverse workplace.
  • Forklift certification from Scepter required.

 

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing plant environment, preferably in a leadership role
  • Minimum of one year forklift experience preferred.

 

Physical Requirements 

Frequent exposure to manufacturing operations requires the ability to use all necessary safety equipment. Standing, walking, stooping, and bending are frequent and required. Must be able to tolerate repetitive motions for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift to fifty pounds. The ability to stand for at least 8 - 12 hours on a concrete surface is required. Must be able to tolerate extreme temperatures.
