About the Role

Description

Build What’s Beneath the Surface—And Grow While You Do It

At WithersRavenel, our SUE Technicians play a critical role in shaping communities by uncovering what lies below the ground—safely, accurately, and with purpose. As an SUE Technician, you’ll work hands-on in the field alongside experienced Party Chiefs, using advanced technologies like  Electromagnetic (EM) and Ground Penetrating Radars (GPR) to identify and document underground utilities that support infrastructure projects across our region.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being outdoors, working as part of a close-knit team, and seeing the direct impact of their work every day. You’ll collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and project managers who value quality, integrity, and doing the right thing—for clients and for each other.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform Sub-Surface Utility Engineering services for both internal and external clients as directed.
  • Communicate regularly with Crew Chief and Field Project Manager to ensure expectations and project tasks are met.
  • Ensure that project tasks and data collection are completed with high quality, accuracy, and thoroughness to meet regulatory requirements of the company and client
  • Operate equipment with safety and quality practices to maintain a safe work environment
  • Prepare company vehicle daily for field tasks with proper equipment and maintain a clean and organized vehicle.
  • Adhere to our core values of collaboration, integrity, respect, quality, community, and sustainability

Requirements

What You Bring

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Working knowledge of utility locating practices and related equipment
  • General understanding of utility infrastructure systems
  • Strong technical skills and a good sense of direction
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities with sound judgment and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to travel and stay overnight as needed for out-of-town assignments (up to 25%)

The Work Itself

This job is performed outdoors in areas such as residential neighborhoods and roadways. Incumbents will be exposed to uneven terrain and all types of weather conditions.   To perform the essential functions of the job, incumbents will be required to stand/walk for long periods of time outdoors and may be required to perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as lifting and carrying equipment up to 25 pounds.
